Kitten update………….

So she made her first trip to the lake cabin yesterday - good little car rider in her carrier. The big cats hissed at her and then settled in as usual. They are all adjusting to each other and she’s very interested but keeps her distance. The big ol’ Siamese cat is very close to accepting her - the other one isn’t as far along.

Big scare today - I heard a thud and found her cowering under the dining room table. I’m sure she fell somewhere from the stairs going to the upper level. I freaked out. She wouldn’t do anything but lay down and sleep for seven hours. I could tell she cut her lip but couldn’t see any obvious injuries. So I basically held her on my lap all day until I finally decided to call the emergency vet. From what I read lethargy could be a sign of an ongoing problem.

So while I waited for the vet to call me back after triage, I put her down to see if she could still walk. She had walked around and ate and used the litter box earlier so I figured that was a good sign. However she just laid down and kind of played with some toys but half-heartedly. I finally rolled one of her little balls across the room and she took off after it. She came back to life and as I was about to call the vet back he called me. He said kittens sleep a lot so all the sleeping wasn’t unusual combined with the traumatic experience. So she’s now good as new. Here are a few pics as requested.

Scary! And many/most vets around here would have had her in for $$$$ of needless tests. She is so darling, and glad all is going well with her new friends.

PS: your dh has a nicely distinguished profile.

With two such good nannies and a foster mom, they surely will thrive. We were dogsitting. I think the whole neighborhood laughed at me trying to take three big labs out for their run at the same time. Felt like Marmaduke's owner, the dogs took me.

I think your kittens are bonding already. Kittens do a lot of mock fighting, chasing, and lying in wait and attacking each other, and it is all part of "growing up cat." I bred Abyssinian kittens in Japan for 7 years, so I have had the fun of seeing a lot of kittens. It sounds to me like the case Cat Mom describes. I always assumed that a kitten that squealed was protesting being hurt, but something interesting happened to me when I was bottle-raising an abandoned kitten. I used to "play' with it. It would get on its back and attack my hand, biting and scratching me. My hand would pretend it was trying to reach the kitten's tummy to tickle it, and I never did anything that could hurt the kitten, but IT would squeal as if it were being hurt, while it really was hurting my hand. That tipped me off to the fact that at least some of the cries kittens utter while play-fighting really just mean that they are excited. There were times when we had a new kitten and some adult cat didn't like it--maybe even administered a small bite or slapped the kitten on the head, but even then, there was no damage, and within two weeks at the longest they were friends. Just supervise a little when they are playing.

She's back to normal today thankfully and amazingly. Big Tucker recovered from his cold last week and he's back to normal too. Maggie just started sneezing but she's fine other than her orneriness. She's still hissing and growling but I think Yoko is learning to stay away from her more instead of always rushing at her.

What a precious photo! I agree that Yoko will mature and things will simmer down. Honestly, it sounds to me like things are going very well, exactly as one would expect. So Maggie is miffed on occasion. It's ok. And I mean that with the kindest intention. Cats tend to "show out" in dramatic ways and we can easily interpret their behavior as very undesirable, when it's quite normal in multi-cat homes. I predict that the kitties will continue to adapt and a harmonious balance will be attained most of the time. But probably not always, and that's something you just have to be ok with. Look how wonderful it is that you're giving these cats a caring, loving home. That's really the most important thing, so please don't lose sight of that when things go a little south. (Still happens at my house from time to time. Drama queens, and kings!)

She sure is a cute one. Glad to hear she travels well and is fitting in, but especially that she seems to be okay now after her lesson/accident.

So glad she's ok! I know what a scare that was though. Tonto fell from the second story landing onto the runner in the foyer below, not too long after we began giving him full run of the house. He was a bit stunned for awhile and very skittish, and of course I freaked and fretted, but kept close watch on him. He pretty quickly came around to being his normal little self again, and hasn't done that same "trick" since. Cats are such resilient little creatures, and yours sure is a cutie. Glad she's settling in well.

Kittens! Like babies, it's a wonder any of them make it past the baby years. When my kids were little, I used to say outloud, why aren't we putting helmets on kids for around the house? lol

Sorry you had that scare, but very glad the kitten seems to be alright now. Hubby looks to be a willing nap spot :)
