Ideas to create shade for pieris japonica getting too much sun
Comments (2)Hi there, I live up in Bucks County and did the same thing with pieris japonica--bought it and planted it in full sun without researching. It was very unhappy. I'd move yours. Maybe you could plant double knockout roses in its place? Sounds like you could use more summer color in front. Hidcote lavender would be nice in front of/under the roses. That's a pretty classic combination, and the lavender would add a nice fragrance. Good luck. I ended up ditching my pieris because I just didn't have a suitable spot for it. I still feel guilty...LOL. Lisa...See MoreHelp--are my plants going to get too much sun?
Comments (1)Wait & see how it does. You appear to be confusing "full sun" with "direct sunlight." "Full sun" means 6-8 hours of direct sunlight on the area. 2 hours of direct sunlight might not be a problem, although it is not at the preferred time (morning sun is best, but it's hard to design an entire garden to get only morning sun). The sunlight should actually make the plants flower better, and some hostas need a bit of sun to color up properly. I can't remember if Guac is 1 of them. Just water & mulch them well....See MoreDesert rose - too much sun killed my buds?
Comments (5)Hi, Just wanna share my experience growing this plant. I grew a lot of this plant in Indonesia a long time ago. The condition in my hometown is always around 25 - 32C, high humidity, and intense sun light. I grew it in a pot, partly shaded where it didn't get midday sun when was the hottest, but morning and late afternoon sun (roughly 9 hours under sunlight). Normally, this plant like plenty of sun. I watered them everyday, just enough till the soil is wet, but not soaked wet. It seemed to love it, in fact the stems were growing bigger like a bottle tree, more younger shoots and leaves grew. It didn't seem to matter what type of soil it grew in, but grew in the dark loamy soil the best. Too much water around the crown of the plant rot part of it, but didn't kill it, then it grew like a bonsai. Responded well with fertilizer, I fed it with high potassium fertilizer, and it flowered profusely, nearly covered the whole plants. after finished flowering, occasionally I pruned them, and fed it a little with high nitrogen fertilizer. I know that they normally grew itself. However, I found that they produced bigger and healthier bud after it has been pruned. I haven't had any experience growing it in cooler and drier weather. But, I hope this help. I'm sure you have plenty of warm days in your area. Tirto...See MoreAre my sun hostas getting too much sun?
Comments (6)they are stressed .. probably from handling.. shipping.. planting.. etc ... it sure doesnt sound like too much sun ... but if they were grown in a shade house.. or under shade cloth ... then they are stressed.. or in shock from the change of light levels ... the only way to get over stress or shock.. is to drink heavily ... and then you wont care about your hosta .. lol ... for them.. its just a matter of time ... the next set of leaves should come up accustomed to local light ... be patient ... the peeps who grow the mice.. tend to have most success in pots ... others will have to chime in on that ... yes.. if you can add temp shade.. all the better.. a lawn chair.. whatever ... just remember to remove them if the wind kicks up ... or storms ... ken...See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
