Island Pendant Light Sizing

I need two pendants to hang over my nearly 8 ft. long x 5 ft. wide kitchen island. What is the smallest and largest sizes I should consider? My sink is centered in the island.The kitchen overlooks the great room.

You can go with bigger or smaller pendants, difference is in their quantity.

If you have a pendant in mind already, make a sample out of paper similar to the shape and size then hang it up. That's how we decided between 11" or 14". Make sure that you mock up the island with tables or chairs and cardboard.

Dear M K and the happy mom of 3 :-), I hope you love those lanterns. They are gorgeou! And I would love the brass finish as well. However, we ended up getting different pendants, which are 3 pieces of the mini Darlana pendants from Visual Comfort. They don’t have the glass so easier to clean and so far, we love them. Here is the finished kitchen. Good luck!

do you have a pic or a mock up of your kitchen? 10 foot island w/only two of these? (the island shown here is prob 6X 3.5 , give or take. Here is one over a very small table. your island is prob 3-4 times as long as this? 12" wide? may be too small. you could try adding a 3rd or get larger lights this island would be closer to your size. having only two-12" lights would look paltry this size would be similar to yours. 9' ceilings. island is prob 8-9feet. these are smaller pendants. two wouldn't be enough. 3 is fine. (although, I don't really care for the look of these.) Try looking for the style you like but in a 14-17" size. see if that fits your island. what about these? they come in 3 diff sizes. I think this is the 15" if you only want two, take a look at these Hood pendants. they are a bit larger and come in a wide array of color combos.

My island is 5x8, my 2 pendants are black and approx 15" diameter and maybe 20" tall (10' ceiling)...sorry, not at home to measure right now. What is your ceiling height?

Lucky, my kitchen ceilings are 12 ft. I'm going with two pendants, and I prefer they be a wider diameter. I hope to find some to warm up the kitchen. The 24" tile is soft gray, the perimeter cabinets are white, the island cabinets are soft gray, and the hardware is satin nickel. (The builder's design center had no brass options at the time.)

In the adjacent great room, there is a white sectional, colorful rug (blue, orange, beige, teal, gold) a brushed silver buffet used beneath the tv hanging on the wall, dark coffee (metal) and end tables, and a whitewashed sofa table with orange lamps.

The kitchen is so stark. It needs pendants that make a statement without being flashy.
