Protecting fabric from the sun?

Rho Dodendron
last year

My daughter lives in the mountains of Colorado with fierce sunshine and rain. She just scored a second hand wood table and chairs for her deck and I offered to sew cushions for the chairs. I have some awesome mineral coloured fabric in my stash. It's home dec faux linen shot with silvery threads. I already popped it into the washing machine and it came out like a champ--barely wrinkled before I ironed it.

My question concerns treating the fabric to protect it from the outdoor elements.

Scotchguard makes a spray that promises to protect from water and sunshine. Anyone have experience with this?

Any other ideas to help the fabric last longer than 2-3 years?
