Is this trim too white?
Comments (7)Evergreen Fog is a greyed-green colour and belongs to the Green-Yellow Hue Family. In relativly balanced lighting it will appear just as its colorography describes. BUT when the available light is short of the warmer wawavelengths it has the capacity to shift noticeably more blueish. It won’t happen in every room. But it’s worth looking out for when testing. It doesn’t necessarily happen on all walls either, that that’s why painting colour samples on one wall, is of little help. (board x 2 coats) So that you can move them around and view both high and low. This doesn’t mean it has blue ’undertones’ it just means that such near neutral colours from this Hue Family neighbourhood, are far more impacted by varying light quality than more colourful colours. I like that shift, as I think it adds changing atmosphere to room. But I wouldn’t want it to be a surprise,,...See MoreExterior colors w/SW Evergreen Fog?
Comments (5)I guess I'm trying to determine what color or combination of colors to use on the various types of trim and decking. (I think this includes window and door trim, fascia, soffits, vertical trim). A local designer thought that using white on the fascia, soffits, and window trim would be a LOT of white, maybe too much white. So we are trying to figure out if we should use something different around the windows (Escape Gray? Something else?) and/or something different on the fascia (Urbane Bronze? Escape Gray? Something else?) What does EF mean? Are you referring to Evergreen Fog? We thought we would just use that on the vertical pieces of trim on the corners........See MoreSuggestions for paint colors on 1960s ranch with stone chimney
Comments (42)You have a nice house! I wouldn't touch the stone, perhaps it only needs some cleaning. On my 1st sketch, I show a green that a bit darker than the one you were thinking about, it would be a better choice with your stone. I went with white trim at the roof line, black windows and doors, a more modern trellis, large new black sconces, and improved landscaping with simple perenials or small shrubs. On the 2nd sketch, I went bolder with SW Urbane Bronze which I think really complements your stone well. Comments (11)I have a corner fireplace. It took me a while to figure out that furniture does not need to be parallel to walls or squared to the floor plan. Our solution: freestanding sofa on the diagonal, facing fireplace. Two comfy chairs to either side of fireplace facing one another or angled toward sofa. Accent chairs where they fit. We even turned the carpet on the diagonal. Getting it right took some sliding of furniture back and forth, but we found a distribution that works very well for the space, and is flexible for company. Since family and visitors gravitate toward this part of house, the triangular area behind a free--standing sofa is open enough to prevent traffic jams. Maybe something similar would work for you. Additionally, we have a more open arrangement for summer (not so oriented to fireplace), and a more cozy arrangement for winter (oriented to fireplace). On the Saturday afternoon of the semi-annual clock change, we switch the furniture arrangement. Seriously; it is not much work, it gives an opportunity to clean those hard-to-reach corners (blush!), and it is fun to wake up on Sunday morning to a new feel for a new season. Comfy chairs that revolve might be most flexible for alternating between fire-gazing or tv watching or entertaining. When you start searching, you can find some very good looking comfy chairs that swivel. I've had leather sofa and chairs come and go through my life. In the end I found them sticky in summer and cold in winter, which -- for me -- did not offset their handsome appearance. Of those, my favorite color was the cinnamon-colored leather. There are a surprising number of shade available beyond the traditional dark brown (that can look rather ponderous). I imagine you'll make cutouts of furniture dimensions to slide around on the floor plan, to get an idea of variation on how it might work. Just remember; you aren't locked in. Even though moving in and unpacking is exhausting, it is also fun to "play house" by shuffling furniture from time to time to find arrangements that work best for you. Best wishes for loving your new house!...See MoreRedRyder
