composite granite vs Cambria quartz for countertops

I am in the market for new counter tops
Is composite granite better than quartz
We are considering cambria quartz but were also told that composite granite is also good
Pls advice

There is no such thing as "composite granite" for countertops. There is engineered stone, commonly referred to as "quartz"; that's what Cambria is. There are "composite granite" sinks, however there is no granite in them, only quartz and resins no matter what the manufacturer says. Granite has too many undesirable minerals in it like feldspar and mica to be suitable for sink manufacture.

There are sintered countertops, essentially giant pieces of porcelain tile. There are semi-precious stones fitted and adhered together into slabs.

joseph is right. Don't know who told you about composite granite. maybe they meant Corian.

andreammd - I'm afraid I can't help much with stone yards in BC, I'm in Ottawa and I had to go to Montreal to get the quartzite. That said, I'm sure Vancouver must have a couple of great stone yards with a good enough selection to stock quartzite. I doubt you would find it anywhere other than in the lower mainland generally, but who knows? The quartzite goes by a few names, I've seen Luce di luna from most of the US posters, at Ciot (the stone yard I visited in both Mtl and Toronto) it is called Quartzite Bianca. There are other white/grey quartzites out there that seem to hit that combination of a marble feel without the granite look and yet more movement than quartz, so definitely call a few yards and ask to see everything they've got. I have also seen here on Gardenweb a few white/grey granites that I actually like - it would probably be worth looking at all of the white/grey quartzites and granites in case you see a granite you like as well. I saw lots of the more common white/grey granite slabs at Ciot, but nothing that really did it for me. Good luck!

@SaraDixon- if you are having a person that works FOR Cambria coming, it means two things. #1- your stone was sold to you (and perhaps fabricated) by a certified Cambria dealer. and #2- you'll be in great hands. We've sold Cambria for many years and have had one maybe two small issues (a spec of wrong color in the stone). Not only were the issues handled timely (even during a holiday), each customer was thoroughly impressed and satisfied. Cambria personnel is expertly trained and stand 100% behind their product. You also have to understand that Cambria is the manufacture of material. There are other elements at play here- like the fabricator/installer/designer. I wish you the best of luck with your issue Sara! But if Cambria is coming, you don't need it. As for potential Cambria customers, you should all know that since September 2018 they now have a LIFETIME Warranty. This is a warranty that can be passed down to new homeowners if you ever sell your house and the warranty covers any sort of bill that may be inquired during the warranty process (plumber, contractor etc) You can read more about this warranty here: https://www.cambriausa.com/customer-care/warranty/ No other quartz company has a warranty like this. We have sold and do sell other quartz manufacturers, but Cambria no doubt is the best (not only because it is made in the USA, and because of their phenominal warranty) but because of what you get for the money. You'll spend more on Silestone, Zodiaq and Ceasarstone and you won't have the same color options, or even quality in some cases, for the price.

We have polished Organic White countertops. We also get subtle metal marks that won't come out. These counters are just a few months old. No one else would notice it, but I certainly do. I would recommend getting a sample of the quartz you are considering and testing it yourself. Maybe we're just unlucky? Although, the number of websites that say "quartz doesn't stain" seem to be equalled by the number of websites that say "here's how to get stains out of your quartz". We haven't tried Magic Eraser and it is somewhat discouraged since it is abrasive, but we may try that next.

My kids are 6, 4, and 2 and we opted to have quartzite countertops installed. I know a lot of people with young children who have quartz or granite countertops and they all seem to be doing fine, but i also understand the other POV that it’s crazy to spend a lot of money on something that the kids are going to beat up anyway.... but I’m not willing to wait 15 years to have a kitchen that i love. As an aside, my grandmother has always had a beautiful house. She favors very fancy decor with a lot of antiques, but was never fussy with her home and it was very well used. With 14 grandchildren and now 4 greats, she has always felt that the reason to make a house beautiful is for the people you love to enjoy it.... and I agree!!!!!

It sounds like it's the same make up like quartz. Not really sure what the diff is. Maybe they use diff blends of rock instead of the quartz alone?

What is a composite granite countertop?

Not to be confused with solid granite, granite composite is an engineered blend of crushed quartz, stone dust, and acrylic resins. The result is a highly durable, low-maintenance, stone-like material that is much lighter than solid granite, but still fit for the challenge of handling your everyday demands.

Composite granite is manufactured with 95% natural stone and 5% resin. Resistant to heat and scratches, composite granite is incredibly durable and nearly indestructible. As it is non-porous, it does not require sealing for maintenance.

Sounds exactly like Quartz countertops.

What is the price on these 'composite granite' countertops? If they are more than quartz, I wouldn't spend the extra.

With the quartz countertops, you get a lot more options and designs.

Engineered stone or "composite granite" as they're calling it, is 66% quartz and 33% resin. Not up for debate; not a single manufacturer will debate this.

This 95% nonsense is by weight, not by volume, is from the marketing department, and is meaningless.
