Which of finish should I choose for our island pendants?
Comments (12)Lamp - I'd love to see a picture of your chandeliers if you've got one. It sounds lovely. I had been planning on 2 smallish chandeliers over our island but then got feedback suggesting they'd be too big for the space. They were some that matched the big chandelier that's going over our dining table. I looked around for others that were smaller that would match okay with the bigger one but then decided maybe simple pendants might be better and easier to tie in. But I really do love the look of mini chandeliers over an island. I think I'd need to find some that are around 10-13" wide, and those don't seem very easy to find. Here are the smallish chandeliers(19 3/4"wide) I had first considered.. Here is the bigger chandelier I've been planning for the dining area which is totally open to the kitchen... But then, if I go with the pendants, I may go with this big chandelier instead since it's in the same collection and has the same metal finish. I'd add shades to it though.....See MoreSplit-finish doorknobs: Which finish for the hinges?
Comments (10)Palimpsest, thanks for the lead on Schlage and Emtek. I've just been looking for Schlage split finish hinges, and I'm not finding any matches. Do you recall what web site you found them at? Even the Schlage web site doesn't seem to mention this. And when I look for Emtek hinges, I'm also not seeing anyone offering a split finish hinge. Where did you order yours? Pattycakes, I'm definitely open to different opinions on this. Here's my situation, and you tell me which you think is more odd... At the top of my stairs, there's a hallway landing with four doors nearby: two bedrooms, the guest bathroom, and a hall linen closet. All the decor is going to be brushed nickel *except* the guest bathroom, with is being done in all oil-rubbed bronze. The door to that bathroom opens into the room, which means that when the door is open -- as it is 95% of the time, what you see in the hallway are the leaves of the hinges attached to the door and door frame. When you're *in* the bathroom, with the door closed, that's when you see the pin or "knuckle" of the hinge. So when you're in the bathroom with the door closed, it would be best to see an oil rubbed bronze hinge pin, to match the other fixtures in the room. When you're in the hallway and the door is open, if the hinge is oil rubbed bronze, then it will be the only one of the four doors in the area showing bronze instead of nickel. To me, that seems strange. I'd think that if, from the outside, it matches all the other doors, and from the inside, it matches the rest of the bathroom, that would be the most elegant solution. If you're picturing it differently, I'd welcome your thoughts -- and whether it should match the inside (bronze) or outside (nickel) finish. -- Eric...See MoreCabinet pulls- which finish?
Comments (14)Hi, Finally adding some pics of the kitchen with sample cabinet pulls. Still making final decisions on cabinet hardware finish. I have a champaign bronze and brushed pewter pull samples on order. Will be adding backsplash (in place of granite section). Also adding simple crown molding above cabinets. To tie the starkness of the white (it's an off-white by the way) we will either paint the slider door casings the off white or instead re-do the baseboard in white. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks! Comments (0)We decided to with the wood-like tile throughout our new construction home. The stairs leading to the bonus room on the second floor is wood. We are trying to pick the best finish for the wood to match the wood-like tile that's throughout the house. The super is going to have three stains for us to choose from when we go to our walk-through, but I wanted to go to that meeting a little prepared by soliciting some opinions on here in case anyone has had to deal with this. I have attached a picture of the wood-like tile. Thanks in advance!...See MoreBeth H. :
