Comments (5)I was asking about the "Yet another question about what to use for pre-M that goes unanswered. What a surprise." Do you think that happens a lot on here? Has anyone used Barricade? It looks promising....See MoreThird Pipevine of the Season to Emerge Already
Comments (10)I count 35 chrysalides left, but a few of them, typically, have turned sooty black, apparently dead. That still leaves plenty of healthy ones yet to emerge. Another female emerged the other day, and I released her - she flew real well. It's still pretty cold at night, but considerably warmer in the day. The only things blooming are early blooming weeds, Oriental magnolias, my serviceberry, and wild blueberries - the wild blueberry blooms are a hummingbird favorite, but I've never seen butterflies nectaring on them. I gauge the arrival of spring by when a particular wild azalea - Rhododendron canescens - blooms. Although all R. canescens bloom before the other wild azaleas, this particular azalea, a cultivar, 'Hot Pink' I think, is always first. The buds are swollen but still have a way to go before opening. Here are two pictures taken last year of butterflies on the R. canescens - This has been one long cold winter! Sherry...See MoreWhats a good cool season pre emergent?
