Consider corner drawers vs a lazy susan - gives you so much more usable space!

Consider putting the DW under the coffee station, and moving the dish cabinet to that side of the prep sink. That would allow both sinks to work well as prep sinks. Right now you have a DW and dish drawers that both open to block the pathway from prep sink to island. Both sinks can be blocked by someone cleaning up, putting dishes away, or setting the table.

To clarify, the prep sink is in the island. The dish drawers would open toward the oven cooktop to be out of the way. The concern with putting the dw under the coffee tea area is that is what we have now and I hate it. It never fails that someone is loading/unloading the dw and another person is making tea. We are avid tea drinkers from morning til bedtime so this area gets a lot of use. Right now our only sink, micro, dw and coffee/tea area are all in the same area and it creates congestion. One option is to move the fridge to the right of the diagram and put the dw and the coffee/tea area both between the sink and the fridge. Would that be better?

Another option is getting rid of the wall oven and moving the fridge over there. That would create more room to move the dw on the other side of the cleanup sink.

I don't think you necessarily need a prep sink, especially if you move the fridge to the other leg. You might consider recessing the fridge into the laundry area, or use a CD model:

Yes, if you have room to move the fridge right and put both DW and coffee station on that side of the sink, that would be great. I'm not sure that having the dish drawer open towards the range helps enough. If someone is unloading dishes, they are crossing the path between the range and both sinks. And the DW door opens just a foot or two behind the range, which will be uncomfortable and possibly unsafe.

Crossings posts with mamagoose. Her layout is great in many ways. DW and dish cabinet are close to each other, both completely out of the prep zone. The microwave is still placed conveniently to the fridge. Could it work to have the coffee station next to the oven? You could put a small prep sink back in the island if you need to fill a kettle without stepping between the main sink and the cooktop.

The reason for the prep sink is that there are always issues with the dw running, dirty items in the sink and me trying to prep. DH will decide to scrub a pot while I need to drain pasta. I would like a dedicated sink just for prep. Wow, just looked at what you did to the layout! The reason I put the mv where I had it was due to it often being used for reheat of coffee or tea. Ill have to think about this. Yes, if the fridge is against the laundry room it would be recessed.

Sympathetic. I know I should be grateful for a man who is OCD about scrubbing dishes, but when you need to drain pasta RIGHT NOW .... If your kitchen life is like mine then yes, you need a prep sink.

What do you all think about nixing the wall oven and going with a range with a two compartments? Mostly the small one on top would be used. The reason for even thinking of a wall oven is for future needs for aging (thriving) in place.

Oh I forgot that the DW "fingers crossed" will be a single drawer DW.

Agree about the DW move and having the coffee station between it and the fridge. My layout is a very similar L-shape with island.

Between my fridge and DW is a drawer base that is 12”. I wish so much it could have been wider, but I didn’t have the room. My coffee station is above, so I keep coffee and tea stuff in there. Then the upper cabinet above is my mugs, tea cups, glasses, etc. After the sink is my tray storage cab, then a corner super susan.

Across from the DW, on the island, is my 36” dish drawers. I keep the storage containers in the bottom drawer. I don’t have an island prep sink though.

I would definitely want to move the cooktop further away from the corner too. I have a range, and I use the right front burner a lot. I would not like it being so tight to the corner. I like having enough counter space between the range and the corner to set ingredients and other stuff down directly next to it while cooking too.

If you went with just a range, then the big pots and pan drawers could move down to where the ovens are. That would make space to slide the range down. My layout goes, super susan in the corner, then two 18” drawers flanking the range, ending with a 36” drawers for my pots and pans. I have my spices in the narrow top drawer above.

Of course there are a few things I wish I would have done differently. One being the island setup. On either side of the 36” dish drawers, I wish I had done a drawer microwave on the fridge end and a pullout trash/recycle cab the other end across from the sink. Next to my sink where my tray storage would have been even better for the trash if only I had enough room. Oh well, overall it works very well for me and my husband. We are empty nesters now as well.

Still not quite finished with the kitchen and decorating since we temporarily moved out (long story 😆), but here is my layout I was trying to describe.

I disagree with the comment above about getting corner drawers. We have two super susans (U shaped kitchen), and they are one of my favorite things about the kitchen.

I have mixed feelings about them. My current corner base cabinet has neither and it is used for odd shaped items and small appliances. Not the easiest to get things out. My aunt had a lazy susan, the kind you just push the door and it spins and I remember it being very convenient but it was not large enough to hold much. Drawer could hold more but are pricy.
