36" gas cooktop up against wall cabinet

The cooktop I selected has a 12" requirement betweet cooktop and sidewall which won't work with the cabinet the builder designed and is installing. Does anyone know of a 36" gas cooktop with minimal (less than 4") clearance from box to wall?

Pretty sure there is no gas cooktop that allows less than 12". Why are you in this predicament? Most builder-designed kitchens at least meet minimum appliance specs as CYA.

My son's kitchen has a gas range up against a corner wall. good thing he's a firefighter. DIL ended up tiling the wall to avoid the blistered paint (and further hazard). clearances are for a reason, I think.

Blue Star, American and DCS come in 48 inch and are less costly than AGA. I guess I price a 36 range and separate oven vs a 48. One thing I like about a range is the oven is also under the hood for broiling things like fish. I have the DCS AG 30 inch and rarely need high for anything though I am cooking quantities for only 2. It has 2 size burners, 3/17500 & 2/12500. Blue Star is open burners the other two are sealed. If you do a search on the bottom of the appliance front page I think you will see a lot of happy people with these 3 ranges.

Check the install directions for your range/cooktop. Often there is a restriction that there be nothing flammable closer than 36" above the cooktop. If you're going with a 36" cooktop, most over-the-range microwave "hoods" go from being "woefully inadequate" to "nearly useless" and, in any event, considering an inexpensive countertop microwave and a "real" ventilation hood would be worthwhile.

This is mostly an efficient use of space issue, so I suppose it would come down to more of a look than specific performance that I am looking for, since I have never cooked on higher end appliances. I do hope to be inspired to be a more adventurous cook with the new kitchen! The big issue is whether the double oven being across from the end of the peninsula will bother me. I am afraid it will. I have 36 in. of space allotted for the cooktop on the other side of the room, so I feel like I can easily switch from cooktop to range and in so doing get better cooktop performance (I do mostly stove-top cooking.) I saw the Blue Star 36 in range today and did not particularly like it. I did like the Viking, though. I was advised against the Kenmore pro line. I am new to this forum. Thanks for your responses.

“does anyone, know if you can install a wall oven under the Wolf cooktop?” @susanrhill34 - there are issues with installing a wall oven under a cooktop. First, there is a clearance issue. You must make certain to abide by the clearance specified for below the cooktop, and the clearance specified for above the wall oven. There often is not enough room for both, so you’d have to find another combination of cooktop and wall oven where there would be enough clearance for both. Second, the wall oven installed under a cooktop will be so low to the ground that when the oven door is open, it is nearly touching the ground, and that low height is awkward and cumbersome for taking things out of the oven that are boiling hot, heavy, and/or sloshing. Third, you would be better served with buying a range. A range would cost thousands less than a cooktop with wall oven underneath including the challenges of installing them.

Why do you even want to make this work? A cooktop with no landing on one side is not fun. What kind of contract do you have with this builder? Hopefully one that says a builder has to correct/pay for errors that keep your kitchen from passing inspection. That might make your builder interested in fixing this situation right now.

My all gas range is right next to my cabinets on both sides so maybe that would be a better choice I do agree that you need landing space on both sides of any cooking appliance but Never a cooking applance beside a wall . Post the plan of the kitchen if that is an issue you have a bad plan so post it here and see what help you can get.

You can pick up 6" if you reduce the size of the cooktop to 30". I could not live without a couple of feet on either side of my range.
