MRI results--nothing sinister!

Yay for hospitals with patient portals and dedicated Saturday staff. My MRI was read today by a radiologist and the results are not scary! I have a partial tear of the vastus lateralis tendon proximal femur. (in my case, the part of the quad muscle that goes from me bum and then runs along the outside to the front of my thigh.)No fracture, no definite lesions on my femur. They would like to follow up with another MRI in a few months. In the meantime I will be heading back to my ortho next week for followup treatment and probably a steroid shot.

Thanks to all my virtual sorority sisters for the hand holding and good thoughts. I am such a worry wart.

I just found this site looking for why my legs and feet hurt when I stand and walk. I just turned 65 but have been in this pain (they say fibromyalgia) after several car accidents - I use to drive for a living - worked on machines and computers. I also moved into a house that needed a lot of repair. But it seems like the pain just keeps getting worse - I have been tested and tested and they say all the blood test - they all come back normal! I keep trying every supplement that people suggest or what I can find on the internet. I have been dealing with this well over 15 yrs and in the last 4 it is so bad I cannot walk my dogs even. It is so not fair for them. I have started to try CBD - some days it works well - They had me on so many opiods and muscle relaxers it was ridiculous and I wont take anymore. To be able to be me again would be such a blessing!

Fit and FOBT have significant amounts of false negative reporting especially in right sided, i.e. The cecum area of the colon. Also sigmoidoscopy can not find proximal polyps either. The reason countries use these methods is that they are cost effective but not as effective in preventing and finding tumours. My DH had a negative FIT two weeks before his colonoscopy that found his cancer. The cost benefit out ways the health benefit in many societies but my DH and many with right sided proximal cancers die because of the use of only FIT, FOBT and sigmoidoscopy. Trying to think of anything that might bother me to the point of "fear" but on the whole, the only thing that comes to mind is that at some time after a heart bypass operation, I developed a bit of an aversion to being in small closed spaces (think REALLY small). I believe this came from immediately post surgery (2015) when I had a breathing tube stuffed down my throat and was choking yet couldn't convince the powers in charge to remove it so I could swallow. Finally, a male nurse took pity upon my situation and traded the tube for a breathing canula whereupon the choking problem ceased. Reading the issues as stated by so many, I guess I've just now realized how fortunate I've been to not have phobias or other issues that prohibited me from doing whatever I wanted which includes standing on the edge of buildings/cliffs/elevators/glass floors or whatever, heights, crawling under/over/and around some rather inhospitable and closed spaces, bugs/bees/small creepy crawly things bother me not in the least although like most people, I rarely "play" with stinging and biting insects. I was always the one who got sent into dark basements, under pier and beam houses, and up to the highest limbs in some half rotten old tree. At present, advancing age along with less agility along with a short list of past injuries generally preclude me from doing many of the more dicey things that I used to do but then... if I need to do them, I will but a bit slower and probably a lot more safely than I used to. To those who have those conditions I've been fortunate to avoid, I do honestly wish you well and assume that due to the perceived age of some if not all posters around these forums, you have still been able to have full and satisfying lives. On the other hand, I've known more than several people over the years that are absolutely terrified of clowns. Of the couple folks I've actually asked about it, they were so upset by the very mention that they didn't know why they were so scared and refused to even discuss.

Yesterday I received an order delivered by FedEx... they put a "relabel" on it with my name and address... there was another person's name and address that was on the original label from the shipper (Frigidaire). She probably lives 50 miles from me. I tried contacting FedEx which is pretty much only being able to use their very limited online auto assistance. Hopefully it understood I received someone else's package. Then I realized MY Chewy order being delivered by FedEx said it was delivered but I didn't get it. Maybe the two packages got switched - although what I received was a small box and my Chewy order was probably 50 lbs at least. I also contacted Chewy to see if they could do anything on their end... only to be told the 30 lb bag of dog food was now out of stock - it was in my original order, but the replacement order would not have it in it. Ugh. I have no idea if FedEx will get this straightened out or not.

What great news! I have learned that tendons are hard to heal and can take a long time.

Phew! Nothing sinister is great news. Your tear sounds very similar to what my brother had until 2 weeks ago. He had surgery and is on the mend.

Nicole, I am hoping that it won't require surgery. I've been living with it for over two years. I always tell myself that I will heal, but as I get older it may take longer. This was a good wake up call that some things actually get worse over time. But because it is only a partial tear, I think it might clear up with a steroid shot and rest (there I go again, acting like the graduate of Google Med School, lol.)

So glad to hear it's nothing serious. I'd be inclined to let it heal on its own and avoid the steroid injection. I had one for shoulder pain and it resolved it temporarily until I ended up with a torn biceps tendon - completely torn so it doesn't heal. Fortunately most people can get along without surgery to repair it which has been the case for me. Based on that experience I'll never have another cortisone injection. My understanding is that they don't permanently fix anything, just temporary pain relief.

Well, somehow I missed the first round before the MRI. I am sort of glad because I would have been worrying. So glad there is no cause for that worry! Doing my happy dance for you!

Oh and I would not totally rule out surgery. I spent 2.5 years in misery and couldn't even walk some days. Got a TKR in December, no pain after two weeks, and the only hard part is that I lost so much strength when I wasn't able to walk the dog our usual 3-4 miles in addition to normal day-to-day stuff. Still trying to up my stamina and strength. If you are in pain, you just won't be able to work those muscles.

Muscle tears are no joke. A good friend of mine had one several years ago, similar to yours. She tried all kinds of PT and even a trip to the Mayo Clinic and mind body therapy. She changed jobs for a shorter commute because her 45 min. sitting in a car each way was contributing to her problem. It did heal, but it took lots and lots and lots of rest. She was an athlete (runner, skiing, kayaking, you name it) and a go-getter. That was the tough part, dialing down and resting. My brother tore his intercostal (between ribs) muscles during a bad bout of coughing sickness. Took him a long, long time to heal too. He also made quite a few rounds to various types of doctors. But in each case I'm describing, they healed. But only after LOTS OF REST. So get on that Jo!! ;)
