Which bamboo would you chose?
Comments (13)Thanks for the info. Makes sense to me and hopefully root pruning will give my hedge planting an edge (both literally and) in the density department whatever I choose. Been looking for S. Fastuosa. Oddly, The 'Viridis' is proving easier to locate. The reddishness on your plant doesn't seem noticeable, but there is no denying its beautiful form, so maybe I should grab up the 'Viridis' while I can. Im thinking if I do go with a Fastuosa hedge, I may try to maintain this clumping affect in a staggered hedge row until such time as they are growing so tall and wide that the canopies are smashing one into the next and spoiling the effect. The good thing is I could buy just enough plants to block out my neighbors house and then use those wandering divisions to eventually extend the row all the way up and down the (near) boundary line. Its good to know that while I would still root prune the outer boundaries of my eventual "grove" to ward off neighborhood panic, I could maintain my initial hedgerow effect with culm clipping for years to come. Any spacing recommendations?...See MoreWhich would you buy if you were on a budget?
Comments (8)Definitely go secondhand. I could buy new, but I've bought all my dining room furniture through eBay and Craigslist. People are constantly buying and purging, so I was able to get a 6-month-old Crate & Barrel table for less than half its original price. I also got six matching Pottery Barn chairs for about 1/4 of their original price, and they were barely used. You can set up a search in eBay and get e-mails whenever a new item matching your search is listed. Just indicate in your search that you want items you can pick up in your local area, so you don't pay for shipping. I also check Craigslist daily, just because! I guess "the hunt" is part of the fun :)...See MoreAirline tickets. Who do you go through?
Comments (15)I just went through a website today called onetravel.com and got great prices. Round-trip tickets from DC to Boston, four seats, for 521.00 including all taxes. Then got a rental car for the weekend for $90 for three days from the same website. For the whole three-day weekend, airfare and car rental for the four of us came to $593! (there was a $20 discount if you booked right away). This website combines airlines, so we are flying out on JetBlu and returning on United. I also just called them on the phone to get seating assignments and got them right away. I was very happy with this - I'll have to visit my family in Mass more often with these prices....See MoreWould you fly on this airline?
Comments (11)I would. But keep in mind the downside of a small fleet is major delays if something is wrong with a plane and they have to bring the other in. Years ago, we flew to Myrtle Beach on Hooters Air. They only flew to MB on Thursdays and Sundays. Something was wrong with the Sunday night plane and the next scheduled flight wasn't until Thursday so no simple rebooking for the next day. We had to wait for another plane to finish its normal route to come to MB to get us. It was a 7 to 8 hour delay. They gave us vouchers for food but said use it now, the 'food court' closes early. It was/is a small airport and I think it closed by about 8 pm. I think there were three food options: Pizza Hut, Subway, and maybe a bar. We didn't leave MB until 1 am. They offered vouchers for a free flight but who wants to take the chance of being stranded again? I think they went out of business shortly after that....See More- 4 years ago
