Do these seedlings look familiar?
Comments (8)Actually a photo attached to a post is fine. You must have an on line site that offers you the abiility to save photos. I use Photo Bucket and is a free service, buit limited to a few photos only, and then you must pay for more space. Once you send up a photo to Photo Bucket, there are three small 'windows' of text below each image, choose the middle text window and copy/paste the 'img' info to the posted message you place here. It should allow the GW forum to go to Photo Bucket and get the image link without any problems. Without photos in this herb forum, it very hard to describe an unknown plant, like that above. Hopefully, someone can figure this photo out, as I have seen such leaves, but only on some kind of house plant. Just searched through over 1200 herb photos, and none had leaves like yours. If these are smaller primary leaves, the may take a second shape on later growth....See Moreseedlings- How do i make them look their best for a sale?
Comments (6)You are probably not following the same cultural methods as the commercial guys you want to emulate. Commercial growers supply PLENTY of light which solves much of the "stretching" problem. They pinch their plants at the right time or use chemical growth regulators (on certain plants) in a drench or spray (like B-Nine or A-rest) to keep the plants from getting too large for the final sale size. AND they fertilize with almost every watering by means of a fertilizer injector putting liquid fert. of the correct proportion into the watering system. The one with which I am most familiar is a Scotts product and the proportion and frequency will frequently vary depending upon what plants you are growing. You can get your own proportioner, although not as wonderful and expensive as the big boys use, but nevertheless very adequate and it's called a Hozon. This little baby screws right on to your hose bib and gives you a 16 to 1 mix. On the Scotts bag the correct mixing is written for the Hozon in the printed instructions so you can't go wrong. The Hozon will cost around $20 depending on where you purchase it and is only completely effective when the hose you are using is 50 feet in length or less. I see them advertised in various catalogs. Assuming that you are using a top-quality growing medium with the information I have given you here you should have no big problems achieving your goal. It would help you a bunch to do whatever it takes to educate yourself in plant propagation and cultural techniques. That would be a lot quicker and less expensive than learning from experience. Does this help you any? Bob...See MoreWhat do oriental poppy seedlings look like?
Comments (13)Orientale poppies are actually hybrids of various types: consequently, there is no uniformity in their foliage habit. Some are paler green, some more bluish. Some have leaves which are only lightly cut while others are very lacinate indeed. Texture also can be variable - from papery, tissue-like leaves to robust, hairy leafage. All will form a distinct rosette with varying degrees of downy covering and all the leaves will have some form of notching. In Linnea's case, it will be very easy to distinguish between the different plants but you may find, Rob, that you will have to look for a typical style and shape and make allowances for a degree of uncertainty....See MoreFall update, how do your trees look right now?
Comments (102)Susanne I love the funky oroblanco bloom, it's adorable! And almost alienlike compared to other citrus blooms which I love Laura your trees are so beautiful and an inspiration! I saw how Mike has transitioned his trees into a room full of lamps. Soon enough you'll see all of our trees becoming as green as yours one day! I was at IKEA last week checking out lamps and bought the $15 Lersta yesterday. I was setting it up and belatedly realized this was the lamp you suggested us to use back when everyone talked about their overwintering plans! I'm so glad I found it, I love the way the lamp looks and how it's tall enough to fit a lot underneath. I had a different fluorescent lamp on my tree before I got the IKEA lamp and it really greened up my Meyer. Once it became October, my Meyers leaves weren't vivid green anymore and was dropping old leaves like no tomorrow. I should've brought it back in much earlier. I now have an LED grow light in the IKEA lamp and I'm pointing the fluorescent to the side of my tree :) it seems to be loving the light that disappeared outdoors 5 flowers bloomed indoors within a few days of each other! I caught one bloom half open today when it was fully closed last night. Great idea putting the light clamps on the lamp, I'll definitely be getting one to do the same...See Moredaleyc
