LV Undercab Lights - Junction Box?
Comments (10)Well, since this is apparently a low voltage installation, junction boxes are not required - but aesthetically make the installation look much more professional and just overall nicer looking (if you are looking up underneath somebody's cabinet). Unless local code has some sort of unusual stipulation, you could have just run 14 gauge CL2 in-wall wiring and stapled it up, which is very easy to work with rather than 14/2 NM Romex - especially if this is with low current LED lighting. I would just look around for some type of enclosure to hide the 14/2 NM to LED wiring connections, but if you can't find anything, it should not be a problem - unless, like I said you have some sort of usual local code that addresses low voltage under cabinet lighting....See MoreCan I get a big enough junction box for my design?
Comments (4)I meant to say panel, not junction box. OK, so 42 is is largest box out there. Even if all of the other circuits were double-pole, that would be a total of 39 slots (i.e., 39 = 25 + 2 * 7), with a few to spare. Would this 42 slot panel fit between standard 16' spaced studs? What is the exact model of this panel? Thanx again...See More220V connection to in-cabinet junction box--safety/code
Comments (1)The NEC doesn't specifically address electricians being slobs. The best you're going to get is a requirement to do work in a professional manner. Electricians aren't usually responsible for fixing drywall when they have to open things. Further "builders" aren't normally electricians. Your issue is a non-electrical one with your builder who fails to supervise his trades....See MoreWhy no 'Hidden' junction boxes?
Comments (3)Don't try to discern the reasoning behind any particular NEC requirement. You'll lose your mind on some of them. :) I gather you view the NECs stance on j-boxes is that it is for protection of the conductors. Nope - it's for accessibility for it's own sake. NEC requires a j-box when a splice or tap is made - NEC 2002 Article 300.13. (Busway conductors are exempt and outside what you are asking about). Splices and taps must be accessible according to Art 300.15. Therefore - if you have a splice, you need a j-box. If you have a j-box, it must be accessible. 2002 NEC 300.13 (A) - Wiring Methods - Mechanical and Electrical Continuity. General - Splices or taps are prohibited within raceways unless the raceways are equipped with hinged or removeable covers. (The j-box is considered a raceway). 300.15 Wiring Methods - Boxes, Conduit Bodies, or Fittings Methods with Interior Access. ..... a box or conduit body complying with Art. 314 shall be installed at each conductor splice point....See More{Yongberg} l U.S Life 용벅
