Why do magnets stick to my SS KA DW but not to my SS LG Refrig?
Comments (11)sombrueil_mongrel, that is another explanation but the KitchenAid Dishwasher has a reflection to it and is more chrome-like so is brighter with less grain. The LG Dishwasher has more nickel in it which can be seen by the more grayish color and the fact that it is not magnetic. It has a grain to it. I was thinking the KitchenAid was richer but now I see that the LG's stainless is most likely sturdier and definitely easier to clean. I now feel disappointed since the Bosch dishwasher with the cutlery tray I loved and it matched better but I chose the KitchenAid for the drying feature and the little bag in the front to hold plastic lids. If I known that the Bosch had a better stainless steel, then I would have had one more factor to consider. But in all fairness, so far I have been happy with my KitchenAid Dishwasher as well as my LG Refrigerator. I do wish they matched better and I know the Bosch was a better match with the handle but I had no idea it was a better match with the SS also since the store did not have the dishwashers near each other and their lighting is different. I am going to have to test the GE Cafe Range I am going to buy but I have a feeling it will not be magnetic since to my eyes it matches my LG refrigerator better now that I know that a more gray look could be more nickel content. But I would love to believe that they are both the better Stainless Steel with the grain different and one having a little more Chromium and a little less nickel. But I don't see any nickel in the finish of the KA DW. Does anyone know what type of SS each of these appliances is made out of? Our world is so amazing that we can never know everything and everyday is a new learning opportunity....See MoreStainless Steel Refrigerator - how to cover up the sides?
Comments (12)There are three kinds of refrigerators - full or regular depth; counter depth and integrated. What the previous poster was suggesting was a counter depth refrigerator which hulks less than a regular depth but still protrudes slightly from the counter. I have one of those and the sides do indeed protrude about three inches because the mechanism of the door requires some clearance to open. In my case, I have a paneled refrigerator and my cabinet maker extended the refrigerator enclosure to where the door would open and then he made a template and covered the part of that protrudes with the same wood as the rest of the wood work in my kitchen. I can post pictures if you are interested. Fully integrated refrigerators are completely flush to the rest of the cabinets and are indeed quite costly - most of them are SubZero so they are $8000 versus $2000 or so. Most people opt for counter depth refrigerators now because they hulk less into a room. Stainless steel really isn't an issue in terms of matching the sink or faucet - in my kitchen, I went with a lot of copper and so I didn't want large stainless clashing with the rest of the metal. Also, my kitchen is to the immediate left of the front door (high rise condo) and so I wanted there to be the beautiful wood doors as the first glimpse rather than stainless steel....See MoreThinking of buying Zline range and hood
Comments (19)My wife and I completely remodeled our house last year during the pandemic. Our kitchen was the final piece to the puzzle. We did a ton of research on different appliances and the features offered. We were shocked at how pricey some of the kitchen appliances were so my friend told us to check out zline. Despite some of the mixed reviews we decided to give them a chance and we honestly love our kitchen appliances. Our range hood with Bluetooth speakers is the center piece our kitchen now. Our gas range also works very well. We have had no issues with our appliances and would recommend the company....See MoreRefrigerator NOT stainless--Aga or Big Chill?
Comments (12)That photo from Sub-Zero makes me realize they have updated their built-in series since I shopped. I don't mind that look. The look I don't care for is this: Maybe integrated and built-in are close enough nowadays--and regular built-ins do hold more than fully integrated. Freestanding paneled are generally bad. (Says the person with a 25 year old leatherette fridge.) Just be sure you get something that looks nice and be super sure it can be installed to look good. :) It might be worth doing a paneled built in just to keep your stove happy. The Northstar fridges come in colors. ($$) Be sure to compare sizes on all of these. I don't have a Big Chill because they're kind of dinky. Still waiting for Smegs to grow......See Morekaseki
