Kitchens Design Dilemma Paint

I want to paint these old cabinets, and in future change the countertop and backsplash as well.
I dont like how my kitchen looks right now, its pretty dated.

I am drawn to blues and beige, but not sure what would look good here. We have an Ikea island that we really like and would like to keep where it is. Also, here’s a picture of what’s across the kitchen.
So looking for suggestions that can bring the whole area together.

Sorry to say but I think the color of your cabinets and think they look good with the living room area. I would put in white counters and a white backsplash to make the room look more contemporary. New cabinet handles too. Perhaps a black faucet for a bit of pop and to coordinate with the island.

Agree, the stained wood cabinets add warmth to the space. Appears to be open to living area, so looks more like nice furniture than painted cabinets will.

To update, would change backsplash and countertops, they look more "dated" than cabinets.

They are nice cabinets! Before you paint, try changing the bulbs in your ceiling lights to at least 3500 K or above (less yellow light). You will probably like the whiter light even if it doesn't help your perception of the cabs. Also, if it is not something that you do regularly, give the cabinets a deep cleaning - a fine layer of oil will settle on them when cooking, and oxidizes to a yellow tone over time. I can't really tell from your pic what color the walls are - but certain colors will emphasize the yellow tones in wood, others will minimize them - you might ask a color consultant at a paint store for suggestions. I would avoid beiges. Do you like the color of the tile on its own? Does it go well with the floor? If you do decide to paint the cabinets, a creamier white likely won't make the tiles stand out - although apart from the wood, you might find their shade of yellow to be cheerful instead of drab. Also, look for inspiration photos of colors like bone white, sage green, blues, mushroom (gray-brown). I would love to see more people putting color on their cabinets!

You could do it w/a jigsaw. (borrow or rent one if you don't have one) These are some DIY links that will walk you through it. Grab a friend w/a bit more know-how if you don't think you can manage. it will be hard to marry the kitchen floor w the counters w another beige or cream paint shade . And there is enough of those tones anyway...but numerous sample cards brought in might help you realize the goal.....if I were painting the cabs I'd move into a green color...light to medium .... start w sage , which isnt too gray. You dont really want cabinets to "match" counters when the floor isnt the same at all. Maybe describe what you mean by "match" to clarify.....Is this simple fatigue with the brown or is the finish needing redoing? If you start to notice the nuances of color you'll see how the alabaster suggested above doesnt align w the floor at all..and it has enough khaki or yellow , which will make the counters look peachy/apricot....so it gets quite difficult....you're better w a white but I'd shift to a real color as mentionned .

Who custom mixes them could have an effect, which is why they always suggest buying and batching the paint as it can also differ can to can. How were these painted? Was it a stock color with one manufacturer and custom with another? " Is this expected? " See above. " Will the color tones adjust to be closer over time? No. They will fade pretty much equally. " Not sure how this can be fixed without a complete re-paint. " Only way is to repaint. Who would you have repaint? What method do you anticipate being used?

Nothing dated about plain profile wood cupboard doors, in fact they are rather fashion forward right now. Expensive stone counter tops are all the rage but what you have, the grey, some still embrace. If you do throw good money at this then remove the laminate back splash and glass tile and go for something simpler and lighter. I might start by just removing the tile and try a light paint. New hard ware will give you a new look but would most likely be more noticeable than what you have. The look you have is really rather current just not done with high end finishes.

small U shaped kitchens always look good in the "white treatment. " but you need high quality counters with some interest along with a great backsplash.......dont rule out an all over color as well. there is a possibility of darker on the lowers and white on the tops. Start to get pricing for painting cabs and counter/splash redo because you will want a cohesive coordinated look. there is a case to be made for leaving all the wood for sure. Maybe it boils down to your budget. Personally an all over color would be a wonderful counterpoint to your small but comfortable and attractive living room.....the kitchen is offset and 3 sided so a beautiful color there would be a treat if you know a color you like. You want a very good paint job. Good Luck.

Another vote for leaving the cabinets alone. Get rid of the backsplash. New countertops in white quartz or porcelain, including the island top. Then you can paint the island bottom a cilia to coordinate with the living area. You’ve got a pretty easy fix!

Yes, keep the cabinets as they are and change the countertop and backsplash.

#1 Change the backsplash

#2 Look into getting white doors for just the upper cabinets or paint the ones there white. This will open up the kitchen and tie it to the other room (which is lovely btw)

#3 remove the upper cab that the hood is in and get a new hood and extend the new splash up and around it.

Thank you all! With so many of you voting in favor of keeping the cabinets as they are and changing backsplash, countertop and hardware - I think I will go for that.

What color should I get for my quartz countertop? I like white, but not sure if that would work with the black island. Another option would be to have a black countertop.
Going with white subway style kind of backsplash.
