I remember something with a similar name that they were marketing for marble -- to prevent etching as well as staining. I went through a lot of chasing down and persistent asking to get a sample treated with it, and I was really glad I did. The treated honed marble felt like a laminate -- it coats the surface that much. I would have paid (in my case and back then) $500 to have my stone feel like plastic. The stuff I was looking at also had to be touched up or resealed by a certified applicator -- no homeowner DIY. I can't tell you for sure that is the same, but I would urge you to have a sample of your stone treated with anything you might be considering putting on it before you make a final decision. A good penetrating stone sealer will prevent stains and the etching isn't that big a deal on a honed surface. I suspect that is all you need, but test your stone and the sealer you plan to use.

I have selected this Brazilian Quartzite (called CRISTALITA WHITE) for my kitchen countertops...two book matched slabs. The slabs are being sent to the fabricator. No one at the distributor was able to tell me what the coppery looking areas/veins are. I do like them a lot, but I am wondering if they are going to cause any problems down the road, based on what is in this thread. They are smooth to the touch areas - same as the light gray/white that surrounds them. Does anyone have any experience with this type of stone - Brazilian quartzite with copper/iron veining? A second question is that these slabs are currently polished, and I was leaning towards a honed finish. Initially, my fabricator told me that they hone all quartzites as a policy, based on their experiences and outcomes. But now he is saying that my slabs don't need to be honed - they should stay polished. I have used this fabricator before with excellent results, so I trust them, but I am looking for input from other professionals and remodelers regarding my specific type of quartzite slabs with the veining. It looks like it is quartzite and what is happening is that the liquid is seeping through the sealer not into the quartzite itself. It will eventually fade away and disappear but it will take some time. Our quartzite is almost identical and we have gotten oil and water stains on it. The water stains disappear quite quickly, but the oil stains take a few months.

It is very smart that you are vetting the fabricators. Definitely seal the inside of all holes. A true quartzite will not etch but some are more porous and benefit from sealing. If you do a search above on 'quartzite staining' you will pull up numerous threads from posters that have had issues. Our quartzite was installed two years ago. We have two sinks each with three holes. One soap dispenser hole was accidentally not sealed and it developed a shadow around the hole about a month after installation. We removed the pump head immediately and when it dried out our fabricator came back and sealed the inside of the hole. Since then we have had no problems. Before choosing a stone I would read karin_mt's threads on here and the helpful articles that she has written. I would follow her recommendation and test the stone that you plan to purchase.
