Flooring Design Dilemma

Flooret Modin LVP - Seeking honest reviews from those who have it

I am looking to install about 1,100 sq of flooring. My first choice is Modin. I have a large dog and really need something that will hold up and last.

We installed Flooret’s Sutton Signature throughout our new beach house. We really love it. While it does have the industry’s thickest wear layer at 40 mils, it can scratch, just as anything short of concrete or tile would. You can replace a plank if necessary. We get a lot of sand in the house and I clean it up regularly with my stick vacuum. We are happy with our purchase.

I'm not happy with my Flooret. I have warping bubbling on the edges and it's awful. I wish I had done tile.

csant87 Thank you for your stair pictures and description! That was super helpful. I got all the different stair product options that they offer now to see, but none work with my stairs. I have a protruding bullnose that cutting off won’t really work. You really need just a 90 degree with no overhang for this to work. That would take retreading 2 flights of stairs..,so I’m just going to do carpet. I did have Brenwick installed on the floors and I love it.

@DK F we love the flooring, we have the color Arbor and feel it is pretty uniform in color. There isn’t too much color variation. I also really like the wire brush effect on Arbor because it hides dirt and scratches. we have had some scratches already. We noticed it doesn’t like hard plastic being moved across it. So if you have any furniture pieces with hard plastic bottom put felt pads on. Our cats have also scratchd the floor in a couple spots chasing and turning corners fast with their claws but it’s not even noticeable. The pattern is tricky, it isn’t the same location in every board but in some boxes we did get a lot of the similar pattern so we had to take all the planks and label them (1, 2, 3, 4) with painters tape and that helped when we installed to keep it mixed. no issues with the bevels or separating. We have it through our entire 1400 sq for home without any transitions for a year now. one thing we did have an issue with is when we first installed for the first couple months it made a crackling sound when you walked on it in places. That has since gone away, we aren’t sure why. I think just settling? Other people on here have had this issue too, and not just with Flooret with other brands of rigid core LVP. Also make sure your subfloor is very flat. We have a couple spots where it wasn’t so flat and you can tell when you step on those spots as it feels a little bouncy. This is typical of any floating floor though.

We installed Cali Northshore oak longboard in our rental cabin when remodeling it and absolutely love it. The oft mentioned issue of repetiveness did arise but our installers did their best and we don't even notice it now. We are now thinking about doing the same in our main house on the entire 1st floor. I since discovered flooret and understand it's wear layer is twice as thick on the signature versions. I ordered samples. Upon comparing with Cali I still like Cali better - it's texture is more 3 dimensional and it feels better to our bare feet. The color, hue and design on the northshore is better than all the samples from flooret ( kingswood, elmsford and sutton ). The floorets are definitely nice but somehow the Cali feels better. Also the Cali rides a bit higher - it's backing is thicker than the flooret. We are torn on this decision because it seems a thicker wear layer for around the same price would be better. But in terms of appearance and feel the Cali wins out. If anyone has any suggestions I welcome them!

My padding was very pricey but it didn’t have a name brand. Was sold by the foot by my rug importer. I also have cheapies for rugs by the bed. The pricey ones feel more comfortable (spongy). Neither has stuck to wood or tile flooring but the cheapies do get brittle so after a while they are as slippery as if you had no padding. I think it’s money well spent to by the pricier ones but again, no damage to flooring with either. Curiously the spongy shelf lining that looks similar to rug padding has been a DISASTER. Over time it sticks to shelving and it’s a mess to remove. Walmart stuff. Won’t use that again!

Do you keep your dog's toenails clipped fairly short, or do you consistently listen to the click, click, click of dog toenails? I think toenails more than anything else could cause problems with a dog.

7 or 8 years ago we installed Flooret's original product in a basement remodel. We've been happy with it there, but it doesn't see as much traffic from people or our dog as our main floor.

In our second home we recently looked at Flooret but couldn't find a product of theirs from their current line-up that interested us, so we went with Karrndean instead.

Are there any other LVP brands that you might recommend? I have tile for downstairs but looking for a floating floor for 2nd floor.

Your floor must be flat, and I mean really flat, read the online specifications, print it out for your records. They change their requirements on a regular bases. Plus a new requirement vapor barrier needs to be installed over a concert subfloor. In 2019 it was waterproof, moisture would not damage it, and it was not a requirement, Flooret is now learning this is not the case. It is only waterproof from the top down. In the meantime customers have lost thousands of dollars following their directions.

If you have concrete without a 6 or 10 mil vapor barrier under it you can use a vapor barrier under any lvp. Floor Muffler.
