We put metal screen under our deck boards on the screened in part to keep the bugs out (staple down to the top of the joists then put boards down). That allows for ventilation without bugs. Warning. Get your roof up quick after you put the boards down, or you'll need to clean a lot of crud out of the gaps. Birgit

I am building a 32 x 21 screened porch with a fully shingled roof. I was considering adding two 30x40 skylights. I am now thinking that when the sun is strong in the summer, it will heat up the porch. I live in SC where I get full sun in the am until 3:30 pm. I do not want to sit in the screen room with the sun blasting in from the skylights. This could be pretty hot. On the other hand, will the screened room as well as my adjacent living room be too dark without the skylights? Confused...please help with suggestions on which way to go. Thanks

Yes I have a tigerwood deck. I can't remember how to post a photo here, else I would have. I use Cabot Austr. Timber Oil twice per year, usu. Apr & Oct. The deck planks have worn well for approx 3 years in Colo. My deck site is on the south, often gets well over 100 deg in summer, some below zero days in winter, annual rainfall here about 10"-14". The wood will definitely weather and start to silver if you don't keep it oiled. I would guess in a covered porch the tigerwood would hold up very well; it will hold up nicely outdoors if you are good about staining it spring & fall. Good luck w/your project. Rich
