Since your room is open concept, how do you plan to stop the black paint?

There's black and then almost black paint. Perhaps a dark charcoal could work better.

You are not changing furniture....do not paint the walls black! Paint the stairs black.

Remove all window treatments, including rods.

Beverly, we were going to paint 3 walls.  In the photo up to where the beige ends on both walls with art.  And the window wall just to edge.  The small hallway section to the right of window will be pale oak.  I've looked at those examples, but I my intention was to get clarification as to which undertones I should consider with brown and black furniture with existing fabrics.

Judianna, painted stairs are out of the equation. Also, you felt black walls are a no go with existing furniture.  Can you expand on that please? Also, may I ask why omit window treatments? Do others concur? I am open, but want to learn from comments as I go and reasons behind suggestions.  Thanks

Be careful with Raccoon fur. Its a beautiful dark charcoal, but, it will look very blue in some lighting.

I would do the recess in the ceiling and the backs of the cabinets in same metallic finish as the large art piece. Upholstery is where I go to determine paint colors; you have some options there that might be better than black. I think the issue with the present draperies is the volume and the floor dragging. That is a bit too opulent a look, and is better suited to a high end, very large space, if at all. You can remedy that with the new panels. You might also recycle the current drapes into pillows, new chair seat upholstery, or in a glam master bedroom.

You kitchen is beautiful, great contrast with the black and blond woods in a room that is bathed in natural sunlight. But black walls in your dining room with the current furniture is not a look I would try to pull off. You don't have enough daylight, it isn't an overly large room there is little contrast between the dark wood and the black walls.

I love a black room but in this case I don’t think so. You need enough contrast and some strength of color to stand up to black. You just don’t have it here. Your floors are very soft. The fabric is nice but too soft IMO. The furnishings, not enough contrast. You would need metallic finishes; and not the dark bronze paint on the ceiling but gold leaf!

It’s about contrast and drama. Black can be beautiful but has to be carefully thought out!

The recessed ceiling is gold leafed.  It has darkened over the years.  The hardware on the cabinet and light fixture are all an antique brass.  I do hear what your saying. All of those rooms have the contrast that I am missing.  Those photos are stunning. Thank you.
