Travertine pool deck in michigan
Comments (37)When I say sub grade this would be the virgin ground that your setting your base material on. The sub grade should be pitched so no water settles there. In the winter anywhere water is being held it's going to freeze and expand. Also I did pitch my pavers for water runoff, but after watching heavy rain on them it was a waste of time. The water runs between the pavers and through my base so fast, it never gets a chance to build up. You'll be happy with them just butted together. I just hope your base doesn't hold a lot moisture. Good luck!...See MorePavers VS. Kool deck-wich is better here in Vegas
Comments (19)Well You all know I had to chime in..... I have been following the forum for about a year as we are looking for a product for our deck. We are in Vegas and DH is in the business. This is NOT a solicitation, I assume you have your own PB. Spraydeck - many brands, definitely cool enough in 110, warm but not hot A few different techniques to install it, best to go see the installers jobs or samples to see what you are getting as far as design and look of his brand. Pavers - NPT carries Artistic, Gothicstone and Durango pavers. Supposedly they are cool enough to walk on, I haven't tried them myself. They are gorgeous. Pricey too. NPT is in the SW area of town. I am looking at a natural stone product here, it is lighter in color and have a sample out in the sun as we speak. It is warmer than my old "kooldeck", but we have hit high 90's in the last few days and this stone is still in the running. I don't have a price on it, but DH says it is less than the NPT pavers. It looks like rough cut pavers, random sizes. Thin pavers - these go over old concrete and I have put samples out for a week in 105+ heat. The lighter colors are cool enough to walk on, made with white concrete. You dont need these, they are for pool re-do, although I guess in Fla they use them over sand for new pools too. Just comes down to budget for me, as well as being cool. I don't want to have to wear flip flops to get to my pool. Hope this helps, Barb...See MoreLevel Travertine Paver Deck - High/Low Spots (for the PBs)
Comments (1)It shouldn't be level. It should pitch down and away from the pool. This promotes draining away from the pool during rain or heavy splash outs, keeping dirt out. Without pictures of when it was being laid, we can't tell if they followed best practices, good practices, or on the cheap. Scott...See MoreTravertine pavers on Texas clay gumbo?
Comments (7)Today we go an e-mail from our PB that they want an extra $3,500 in addition to the sizable amount in our contract to cover unexpected cost associated with the travertine paver patio install that we selected. The PB also informed us that they did not secure the 6X12" pavers we selected and fell in love with (even though on multiple occasions they said the material had been secured). The supplier no longer has sufficient stock to complete our job so we are going to have to select a different (12X12") paver from a different company. We were presented with the following options: 1) Install pavers on a standard sand bed base with no poly (NOT RECOMMENDED) 2) Install the Travertine pavers on an enhanced cement-stabilized sand bed base with a polymetric screed additive. +$3,275.00 3) Install the Travertine pavers on a concrete subbase. +$3,700.00 4) Remove decking from our contract and refund deck allowances altogether. What would you do? I am not willing to pay the requested amounts and feel the PB should complete the job specified in our contract (it does not specify type of sub base)....See MoreCameron Dobbs
