Got my GST and gulf frit eggs from Shady Oak Butterfly Farm today
Comments (46)Hi!! new to posting here, but I am sharing your frustration over GSTs. I just ordered 3 more from Shady Oaks, and two bit it by the time I got up this morning. I thought maybe a tiny spider was getting the one itty bitty, but I couldnt see too well, but it may have been another cat I saw balled up over him. Thinking it was a spider, I swatted it away. So I have one lone cat left, just like last time. The last one got really big, and I guess he finally wandered off to pupate. But he sure didnt move much. So I will watch the one ittbitty. I did get some really huge PVSTs. I have never seen one! I really hope they pupate alright. And after being so sad over not getting any BSTs on my very lush fennel, I ordered some along with this order, and presto! new hatched cats! Oh and GF when just hatched look like short little yellow strings. Then they get red. I watch them munching out my kitchen window. The funny thing also is my mom thought I was insane when I started getting into this, so that my then 5 yo son could see the lifecycle, after awhile, and taking her to Shady oaks for the tour, she absolutley loves it too now. This is addictive. They're like my little babies!!--Traci...See MoreLooking for Hilton Head restaurant recommendations
Comments (7)Ah, my favorite topic! I'm in HHI currently. (Hey nanny2a, want to meet for coffee or something?) My first recommendation is to pick up the Restaurant guide located outside of most stores & supermarkets. It doesn't list every restaurant but it does have sample menus & details, which is helpful. Also pick up the Where To Go guide because that will list some additional places. I've never been to Reilly's so I don't have any advice about that but I can confirm Charlie's is worthwhile. My favorite place is Michael Anthony's on New Orleans Road. I prefer to dine later but they have a great early dining special if you like those. My sister really likes the early bird deal at Alexander's on Queen's Folly Rd in Palmetto Dunes. Sunset Grille is in an odd place, an RV park, but the food is wonderful. They are not in the restaurant guide but you could probably get some info on them from trip advisor or a site like that. If you're football & bar people, Wild Wings has football bingo on Monday nights. I hate football but it's still fun, the food is good bar food, and you can win prizes (free wings, bucket of beer, key chains). Other places I've been to & wouldn't hesitate to return: Red Fish - Sea Grass Grille - Ruan Thai - It's Greek to Me -Jump & Phil's - Signe's for breakfast or lunch I've only had a drink there but I liked the craft beers & the atmosphere of the Bomboras Grille in Coligny. The Salty Dog in Sea Pines is very popular, it's okay but I only go there if I'm with some friends that like it. If you're here Oct 16-23, the Bluffton Seafood Festival is great. In addition to stands with seafood, there's a juried fine art & craft show and music. Bluffton Seafood Festival If I haven't gone on long enough, you can also email me & I can go on and on and on. Enjoy your trip, Jean...See MoreCondo purchase in Hilton Head SC?
Comments (11)I only know of a nice premium brand new condo that GF bought many, many years ago in HHI. She was sec'y for the HOA and I used to help her transcribe the minutes. Let me tell you, that place was a disaster! I used to tease her that it was built on an old indian burial ground and thus cursed. A lot had to do with the fact that it was so poorly constructed and by the time things started to fall apart, the builder had gone bankrupt and disappeared so the owners were stuck with all the repairs. Things like insufficient bolts tying the buildings to the piers underneath, the decks so poorly constructed that people with 2nd floor units were not allowed to fill their hot tubs for fear the deck would collapse. The indoor pool had inadequate ventilation and became a mold issue. So they just redid the entire thing, finished painting it, then there was an electrical short and the thing caught fire. Then on top of it, she had to eventually sell it and got a fraction of what they paid for it. So I guess the lesson would be to buy in an established condo and review the meeting minutes so you can get an idea of whether or not there are serious issues with the buildings. And buy it with the idea that you may not get all your money back. Also on renting...it can interfere with your enjoyment of the place as you will be renting at peak times when you or your family may also wish to use it....See MoreFeeling matronly
Comments (114)Tina, I love them. I can't really recall seeing them down here. It's mostly either briefly cold ( coat or jacket) or hot to hot enough that you want no extra fabric anywhere near your person except those that cover your nakedness. I have never ever seen anyone wearing a scarf, even a light weight one in the summer and I've lived here since 78'. I have seen those skinny ones sort of hanging but never around the neck. But, I'm talking summer. When gauging the weather down here there is the temp and there is the "feels like". So, if a summer temp is 85 it feels more like 95 unless you are right on the ocean getting a breeze. You even have to wear different makeup in the summer because you will sweat. Waterproof mascara so you don't get the smudges and the same goes for eyeliner....See MoreRNmomof2 zone 5
