Pruning and Fresh Growth - Zone 9b
Comments (50)Lavenderlade: Though HMF mentions William Morris as "Strong" fragrance, I have mostly found it of moderate intensity in Islamabad. The quality of fragrance is great and it smells like a mix of fruits, old rose and spices. Very nice fragrance. Few more photos.... The bush was suffering from powdery mildew in the last week but seems to have recovered very well after milk spray. Lovely damask fragrance One of my GC bushes that is in a pot. Lot of buds coming up Just Joey is simply marvelous this year. I bought this Lady Emma bush in April 2015 and it has hardly grown in two years. I have changed the soil this year. Let's see how she does!! This own root Westerland seems to be doing great this year. It's a home grown cutting. As before, William Morris is one of the performers in my house...See MoreLooking for Hydrangea cuttings for SASE - Zone 9b California

Comments (6)That’s interesting. I just went to the Monrovia.com website and put all my requirements in for growing zone, height, spread, evergreen, full sun and lower water use and only 3 options came up. Blue Arrow juniper, Taylor juniper and Spartan juniper and I didn’t even specify that I wanted junipers. Spartan juniper says it can get 5 feet wide at the base. So, I don’t know why it came up when I had filtered it for 2-3ft spread. Maybe the Spartan can be pruned to keep a narrow base? The Taylor juniper says it can grow to 30 feet and the Blue Arrow 12-15 feet. I think anything over 10 feet high will be good enough so even the Blue Arrow would be fine. Since the mature height of the Taylor juniper is 30 feet, does that mean that it will reach the 10 foot minimum height I need for privacy much faster than the Blue Arrow would? Since the intended use is for providing privacy from the neighbor’s upstair window view, are there any issues spacing them close together so there would be no gap between them at mature size?...See MoreNormal Seasonal Adjustment For Drip Irrigation in Zone 9b
Comments (5)gardening is an art.. not a science ... and when you make it into a science.. imo.. its just no fun anymore .. i dont understand.. with the vagaries of mother nature.. and her weather.. how you could expect anyone to come up with a system of what you should do in your yard.. in your soil.. with your ambient weather ... and surely minimal winter temperature.. zone.. has nothing to do with winter watering .. so why are you fixated on that ... temperature is one of lest important WINTER issues.. dont you think?? also.. if you were somewhere where you actually had a winter.. i would tell you that dormant plants dont need much water at all.. but i surely dont know z9 nor CA... but you need to take that into consideration ... do your plants even go dormant for winter??? .. teach me something ... ken...See Morewestes Zone 9b California SF Bay
