Downdraft vent with slide-in range??
Comments (51)Ahem. I believe flex aluminum ducting, as the above image appears to show, is prohibited for grease contaminated ducts. They have to be steel to resist fire penetration. Even if one chooses to ignore code, for safety's sake please routinely inspect and replace if build-up is detected. Alternatively, if the ducting were surrounded by steel in both cavities -- such as metal on all the cabinet surfaces -- it might be passible....See MoreMoving floor vent to toekick area
Comments (8)Thanks. Kitchen isn't too big so there's not a lot of places to put the thing. I'm going to readdress the issue with GC. The builders seemed to pick the worst places to put the vents. This one is in front of the garage door. The one in the den is in front of the sliding glass door--I have to have my rug shifted over so it doesn't cover the thing and so we have to step in sideways to step on the rug rather than the vent when we enter--that one is getting moved to the right to get out of the door entry....See MoreGas Company says I have to move my range. Comments (11)Sherry, yes if I can get rid of the downdraft it can stay with a hood over it. DH thinks he can modify if need be it so we can get a few more years out of the Jenn Air range. Our budget is SO tight due to issues needing fixed we didn't realize we had. No fun, but had to be dealt with. It's really ruined my decorating budget, but hey that's life. I have also considered the microwave over by the fridge somewhere. I guess if I have to move the range I could put it the existing range wall. Ahh, so frustrated. Thought this was all figured out!...See MoreMoving from standalone range to built-in oven - single, double, MW?
Comments (14)“The challenge then becomes with the microwave” I have my microwave on a shelf in my pantry. I had the electrician put an outlet in there. The shelf is about waist-high. Perfect for us, as we are not frequent MW users, we just use it a bit. Microwave ovens are pretty fugly; I don’t want to see it in my kitchen that I designed so carefully. You should never get a built-in MW. Microwave ovens aren’t built for longevity these days. Best to get an inexpensive countertop MW that you can just unplug when it breaks and replace with a new one. If you can’t put it in your pantry, put it on a shelf like your builder said....See MoreUser
