Comments (3)I always spray, roll or brush a bonding agent (Link or Plasterweld) into cracks or old plaster edges before taping. I embed the tape (paper for corners) in a setting-type compound, like Durabond 90 (sets in 90 mins or less). So the second coat can go on the same day. For second coats you can use another setting-type compound, Easysand (setting time @ 90, 45, etc), or regular green-lid drywall mud. Finishing touches with regular mud, for ease of sanding. Since it's a ceiling corner, it would be all right to use the dust-reduced type of mud, which I do not recommend for general work as it is very soft, but at a ceiling it wouldn't see any rough handling. Comments (2)Assuming this is a fairly new installation and things are, over time, drying out at different rates. You MAY be able to get away with the patch but I don't think it will last. Better to bite the bullet and clean the old stuff out and begin fresh. Depending upon how deep you have to go to remove the old stuff it may take a few applications to build it out. Let each coat dry thoroughly before adding the next. This is such a pain in the neck. I know because as I sit here I am looking at a crack in my new wall and ceiling, and I had pros do it. Comments (31)Hello everyone, I wanted to provide an update on the situation. Recently we endured two of the rainiest days in the last 20 years. My property received just over 6 inches of rain during the two day period. This rain was not a direct downpour, it included 20mph winds from virtually every direction at one time or another. I know the window was being hit with rain because of the fact that there was water in the tracks and that water was dripping from the weep holes. During these days the window did not appear to leak at all. The window and the wall below it remained completely dry. Based on the fact that the window is poor quality, I still plan on completely replacing it in the spring, when I can get a dry window of weather. 2 years agoShouldn't the person sent to repair be able to troubleshoot the problems?
Good point but the unfortunate truth with many of the subcontractors is that they will do the absolute minimum to fix an issue. For all we know they'll paint it and then everyone's hands are wiped clean - 1 year warranty done. I would like to educate myself what is good, what is not and why so I can outline expectations. I guess we could ask that question but without the knowledge we won't know any better.

Top issues or best practices I found not relating to structure
1) Use paper not mesh in the corners
2) Inside corners at walls and between walls and ceilings are stress points for drywall and common places for cracks or nail pops. Leaving one side of the joint free to move without fasteners will eliminate most of these problems.
3) Framing workmanship - which below you’ll see the wall isnt flat with roughly 3/16” concavity. I wonder if this could be a contributing factor.
My main concern isnt that there are a few cracks but close to 100 in the houseci_lantro
