Matte vs glazed floor tiles in bathroom reno
Comments (7)Unglazed has that "matte" or "honed" natural stone feel to it. So there's a little bit of texture on the surface that the glazed doesn't have. That micro-texture can hold grime, but again the tile is not porous, so the grime isn't going to penetrate into the floor. And your tile is dark, so dingy showing as dingy probably won't be an issue. When you clean it, it'll clean up like new. So yes, to address your questions? Glazed is easier to clean. Unglazed may look dirtier quicker....See MoreNeed help with metal choice for bathroom. Brass, Matte Black, Chrome?
Comments (4)Jane, thank you for the input. I should have posed my question a bit clearer. I need help with metal for lighting, faucets, etc. I'm looking for suggestions for the entire (overall) look of the bathroom. At first I was going with polished nickel, but the faucet I want to use (Delta/trinsic) does not come in polished nickel. The light fixtures I Iike only come in polished nickel and not chrome. It's just so frustrating. I thought I could do mixed metals, but unsure of that too. I read a number of folks say don't mix polished nickel and chrome. I was thinking matte black, but nervous. My husband won't go for brass (after posing my above question), though I agree, it would be interesting. Thank you again, and if you have any other thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate them. The double vanity is 80" (white), there will be a free standing tub (white), with separate shower in white subway tiles, the quartz counter tops are a medium gray, dark slate floors, and lastly white walls. It's so hard for me to use my imagination and picture different metals in the space....See MoreCan I see eveyones bathrooms with black hardware and faucets?
Comments (13)And I dry it every time I shower. Same for the sink fixtures. Yes, a lot of trouble but I don't mind. Update: Just had my plumber here to replace the cartridge in the shower (hand-held was dripping). He commented that my drying the fixtures every time has preserved the finish. He says they go in houses all the time where the matte black is marked with white hard-water deposits in six months time. So, it depends on your water supply and your own level of commitment....See MorePrimary Bathroom Reno - Paint Color for Pewter Green Vanity
Comments (11)@Jennifer Hogan @Patricia Colwell @kandrewspa @cpartist Thank you all for chiming in! To answer a few questions and give some more collective context: 1. I whole heartedly agree with the dopamine hit when I am surrounded by my favorite colors. Not surprisingly, my favorite color is green, and it is the wall color in my bedroom (the room leading into the primary bathroom). The walls of my bedroom are BM Avon Green, which is quite dark and I love it every single time I go in there. While I would love to paint the bathroom walls green as well, I think it might be overkill, especially if it's a different tone altogether. I would love to do wallpaper but the choices are ENDLESS and I'm worried it will feel overwhelming to the eye. 2. I agree that Grand Millennial style is not very modern and I'm not describing this very well. If I had the time to research and money to spend, I'd go this route. The feel of my house is a bit more of a moody modern in style - I'm not sure what to call it. Maybe modern farmhouse? Our floors are natural white oak. Our kitchen cabinets are navy with black handles, to give some context (a bandaid fix for some 90's era yellowing oak cabinets from the prior owners). 3. I've read a ton of articles on mixing metals and i've looked at many pictures of mixing metals in bathrooms specifically, and I'm not sure I agree that you can't do it in a small space. The bathroom is gutted right now so I have no photos to show of what is actually in there. I did post photos of the vanity and fixtures in my original post....See More
