My only advice is to think ahead if you will have other whites in your kitchen, especially the trim. Trying to match whites is the path to insanity, lol, but it's good to make sure everything is complementary before you start (i.e. have either warm or cool tones but not both). I have off-white cabinets, white tile, and white trim, all of which are different shades; but it looks fine together, at least to me. (The trim molding attached to the cabinets is the same color as the cabinets.) So whether you use white or cream-colored cabinets, think a bit about your countertop and backsplash and paint first to be sure you'll be happy with the direction it's all going. Otherwise white vs cream is just personal opinion. I am very happy with the off-white cabinet color in our kitchen; it's not as far from white as "cream" but it still fits with the rest of our warm-toned interior. I am not a big fan of glazing but again, that's just my opinion (it wasn't an option with my cabinets anyway so I can't say I have thought much about it).

My kitchen is a 1940's throwback. The house has not been updated much over the years, though I am aware of a partial remodel of the bath and attic in the 60's. The cabinets run to the ceiling, they are flat doors and quite tall and deep, unlike a lot of the newer ones I've seen in stores. the hardware is all art deco, empire state building look, which I like as well, but is in in a shiny silver tone. I don't mind the 40's style, and it is very charming. Back then they didn't have a lot of cabinetry and I need more, as well as counter space and the little hexagon tile counter top is a real pain to keep clean. the kitchen is almost completely white and although this looks quaint, I need more color. As far as Tuscan style. I may have misspoke, it is Italian built, but not the romantic Tuscany that is so popular in decorators magazines. It is a brick house with wrought iron features and stone accents. No golden plaster walls and terracotta tile roofs here, unfortunately. I do have black accents in the living room decor, so I think it will be a good mix. I do like the oil rubbed bronze, it is practically as dark as black only softer. mdmc, your kitchen is just beautiful, I do really like the counter tops there seems to be a very dark, almost black spots throughout or is that just lighting? Is it mostly tans and browns? Thank you everyone for the pictures, I did not even know there was a finished kitchens blog!

Amazing transformation! I have heard that oak with its strong grain was very difficult to paint over. Is that why you did so many coats and can you see the grain now? We have some cabinet doors in our living room that are oak veneer and I would love to do them cream with a glaze but unfortunately as they are flat faced I don't think the glaze would show much but I am curious as to whether the oak is hard to paint.

With the color of your cabinets, I would stay away from golds, and tans and beiges, unless you can come up with a color that is an exact match to the cream in the cabinets. A lighter bluish green, blue, or green would look better with your cabinets. The gold you have now, really doesnt go with them at all. Pretty house.
