Mid Century Modern Kitchen in Texas
Comments (8)WOW, I just saw this -- haven't come over here much since I did my Ikea Hallarum Kitchen back in '04...but I'm SO glad I did. CONGRATULATIONS on all your remodels. Did you design them yourself or with help? One question re the glass tile transition strips: Did the tiles come pre-'softened', as it were? If not, if there are any sharp edges, you might want to rub a tile stone over them just to be sure none of your little guy's friends get hurt if they're running around in bare feet. I do mosaics and I know that everyone who does glass floors makes DEAD sure that every single piece is completely sanded down to innocuousness. Again, congratulations -- I think I'll save your pics as inspiration. GREAT work....See MoreMid Century Modern Kitchen Peninsula Waterfall Depth and Overhang
Comments (2)My island is about the same size. I think it's around 109 x 54" wide. I really like this width. I think either width for you would work. I also have shallow cabinets, maybe 12" or less in the seating area. I think I would put some boxes out or posterboard to see if you can map out the two size differences and see which works best for the room. Here's some pics of my island - they arent great, but theyre all I have stored on the computer for now. Your house looks awesome, btw!...See MoreMid-Century Modern Kitchen Reveal
Comments (38)The bay window was existing, but I believe it may have been a previous retrofit from a straight window before I bought the home. It's approx. 42" x 42" and 16" deep. It looks close to being a 45 degree angle for the sides. The glass backsplash was the big splurge, they run between $125-$150 a square foot installed. I was only going to have it behind the stove to keep costs down but my husband said just go for it so I did that whole wall. Its super easy to keep clean, just like cleaning a mirror or window....See MoreCan I mix mid century modern and country in kitchen
Comments (10)Real farmhouses in the 50s and 60s had mid-century modern elements. Houses in the country in the 50s and 60s had mid-century modern elements. But..neither the farmhouse and country elements of those homes nor the mid-century modern elements of those home were, as Live_Wire pithily put it, the Disney theme versions of those design trends. If you don't go over-the-top with "farmhouse" or "country", I think it can all work together well. But when you are working without a net (an inspiration pic, in this case, of the elements you want to combine), a mood board, or even better, a real mock-up, is your friend. Putting all the elements together on paper, or on computer screen will let you see how everything works together and give you a chance to course correct....See MoreRelated Professionals
