I see no reason to imply the original poster is stupid for asking for sincere advice. And I see no reason for all the expletives, (my G.d, Good Lord, for cripe's sake). Online mattress sales are a growing reality, particularly for younger generations. Two of Consumer Reports highest rated mattresses are from Charles P Rogers Beds Direct, a company which only has two bricks and mortar showrooms, one in Manhattan and one in New Jersey. They specialize in selling both bed frames and mattresses online. And CR thinks very highly of them. My daughter and her husband are both MD's and have ordered mattresses online with high satisfaction. Given their demanding schedules, it simplified their lives. It is nice to have the ability to test drive a mattress in a store, but many mattress stores have a not undeserved reputation for flim-flam. Kudos to Helen for recommending Mattress Underground to aid the research. And Jan Moyer, I actually order my brassieres online and have done for years. I have found the brand, sizes, and style numbers that work best for me, and get better selection and prices online than in a store.

I recommend contacting the manufacturer of the mattress. Be prepared, you will be asked for the source of the original “stain”, and the products you tried. “Blue crystals” is insufficient.

New mattress selected. What a stressful process. It's so hard to tell what is going to work for you or not. I don't have a delivery date yet though. Pandemic slowing everything down it seems. I had it down to a couple mattresses but during the trying out process...just feeling so overwhelmed I jumped up on a mattress that I would never even look at, as it was out of my price range...and asked "what makes this a $5000. mattress" (non-sale price) so she was explaining about the mattress and I was surprised by how comfortable it was considering it was a medium firm and I was trying plush mattresses. So I moved on from there. I was back in yesterday to make my final selection since it was the last day of the sale and was between a couple mattresses and got back on that dang expensive one. After comparing and comparing I decided to go with the expensive one. Certainly wasn't $5000. but even the sale price it was more than I was wanting to spend. But I think I made a good choice. I did go back up to a queen sized bed. Feel good about that choice also. I ordered a new mattress cover in a queen. Same as my full mattress cover I currently have. I can still use the full mattress cover for DD's bed. I know the new mattress won't feel like the one at the store, I'm expecting it to be firmer till it breaks in so I'm keeping that in the back of my head. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the new one. Of course I totally despise my current mattress with the big dip even more now that I know I'm getting a new mattress. LOL

There are SOOOOOO many mattresses -- brands and types out there. KSWL, when we set out to buy our last mattress, we searched specifically for a latex mattress. I'd be very interested in one like we bought our son years ago, but the ones we found were way too soft, jello jiggly or had other issues. There was a new store that opened before the pandemic and I had planned to check them out, but they closed. If you ask about a latex mattress, most places will show you a mattress that has an inch or two of latex -- and it may or may not be natural latex. Jill302, our last mattress was from a local mattress maker. We were very happy with it overall, but the top compressed to the point it no longer gave the support and comfort we needed, especially side sleeping. It was also VERY heavy with 2 layers of coils. I don't miss that. I've looked at their options online. Everything was so much higher priced than before -- but all the others are too. We may go check them out in person. For all the Sleep number recs, I've looked at them and a basic one won't work with our bed frame and I don't want to pay for all the stuff I don't care about. We'd have to put a thick topper or two on it and I just don't have the patience to figure out layers and combinations right now. Maybe I should, but I don't. Right now, we are favoring the Leesa Legend Hybrid -- which we can only try by going to Pottery Barn and asking them to strip the display bed that is right in front of the door. I discovered Costco has it at a really good price, but also says estimated delivery is less than a week while the Leesa site says they are made to order. I will not buy a bed that has been stuffed in a box and sitting around in a warehouse -- so that is something to check out. We also went there to check out the Westin bed and ruled it out. We went to the Casper store in the mall so DH could check the one he liked asn can no longer get from the other store against everything else we are looking at. That made me realize how much I dislike the adjustable base we were sold without trying. That is going back too. Jury is out on Casper - in part because we don't like what we've seen of the company itself, but I also think it started my shoulder getting cranky yesterday, Then we went to another mattress store with a wide selection. Went there to try a brand a friend recommended and in less than 30 seconds ruled it out as not for us. We did see a TempurPedic I like there. I want to try it at a different store without the person talking nonstop to impress us. I also have to see just how much the original store is going to "work with us" after putting us in this position. I don't want to be doing this anymore, but we have to. Oh -- my son's FMIL wants to come to visit and talk about wedding plans. Won't she LOVE the mattress on the LR floor! It fits right ii with the wardrobe and other boxes in the DR and the boxes. I would pay them to elope. Seriously.
