They should be consistent with the overall design scheme of the house. Public areas of my house have blond oak floors, kitchen is half walnut cabinetry half gloss white. Two bathrooms and laundry are also white. Guest room has blonde oak cabinetry and white tile floors to tie into the house. What you are suggesting could be fine depending on your other selections.

@HALLETT & Co. are you happy with the gloss white? Acrylic? I was also planning on the white oak hardwood floors, but tile on the bathroom floors. I could go with the acrylic white in the laundry room. Trying to accomplish a modern/mcm look.

If the rooms aren't seen together, you can switch it up. if one of the rooms is upstairs in the master, then do what you like.

nothing is really going to flow w/the bamboo. teak is ok. That walnut one looks very modern. I'd look at something else. (and is it a fake walnut? like a lamate? or actual walnut?)

@Beth H. : hoping I can get better pricing from HD than from the custom kitchen business I received an estimate from.

My daughter used Lowes and combining sales and coupons accomplished a very budget friendly redo of her kitchen. She considered bamboo but decided against it because she too was redoing master bathroom and wanted some coordination but not matchy matchy. She selected a cabinet door style and had kitchen painted and glazed and bathroom done with same facade but stained dark nearly black to go with existing black tile in the bathroom. So, try Lowes and bring one element of each space into concert with other rooms for a consistent, cohesive look.

IMO Ikea is still a better quality cabinet than any big box store but that said I find all cabinets places are limited in design to what the software lets them do. I have been designing Ikea kitchens for 22+ years and never use their design tool . Get an independant KD who will help with thinking outside the box for a much more personal kitchen IMO money well spent on a space that needs to be perfect for you .I have had high gloss cabinets from Ikea in my last 2 homes and I run a catering biz from my home so my cabinets get a lot of use , much more than any average family, and in this house mine are 15 yrs old and still look like new .

As for different cabinets in bathooms no problem I do however like any bathrooms joined to bedrooms to have a decor that coordinates with the bedroom I love powder rooms to be a bit of fun and a bit over the top

If you FLOW is your goal then all wood/styles are same same, the way all contractors trim out every home they do unless told other wise. If you want your home to be yours, and express different moods/uses go for it. An OCD buyer will no doubt pass when you go to sell--but there will be buyers who don't even notice.
