Just to prevent any confusion (I don't care -- this is just for information): "Pullout" is often used for anything that one pulls except a drawer because a drawer already has a name. Therefore there are pullout shelves, pullout pantries, and pullout spice racks. There are pullout cutting boards and pullout tray racks. The only use I personally have seen in my four years of being TKO of "rollout" is in the phrase "Roll Out Tray Shelves (ROTS)", which Buehl taught us to say awhile back. Since it looks like opposite definitions are being used here, I just wanted to clarify. That said, I think door-attached pullouts (or whatever you want to call them) are great for areas that are too small to usefully make a cabinet. That's a maximum of 15" wide, and more like 8"-12". For a pantry, even at 15", I prefer individual pullout/rollout shelves to either a door mounted unit or drawers. You can see from the front, you can see from above, you can see from the side(s). I have an undercounter pullout with two door mounted levels that holds bread, cereal and other breakfast/snack stuff. Love that. Too narrow a space for anything else (tray storage elsewhere). You can see and get to everything, but there's no need to reach across much. Only two packages, if they're narrow, sit side by side. Good stuff! Two doors don't bother me given the ability to see into a pantry (that's what I have), and I like wider than narrower, though that isn't at issue here. You can get a single door with 15"-18". One member--Circuspeanut? I forget--has narrow pullout trays but no doors. Looks cool in her kitchen. :)

BenjesBride already drew out my suggestion -- thanks for that! Moving the washer/dryer to the hall seems to relieve a great deal of "busy-ness" in the small bathroom. However, going for all possibilities: With such a large pantry, why are you trying to fit these large machines into the small bathroom? They (and the water heater) could fit into the oversized pantry. I'd also consider a change with the water heater: Could you go with a point-of-use water heater, which requires less space in a small house? Or could you go with a "low boy" water heater /hidden under a shelf so that you could have some space up above for folding clothes? Finally, I understand that you're trying to have a door to the hallway AND your bedroom ... but in such a small space, the door swing is going to be problematic. I see two solutions: 1) make the door into your bedroom a pocket door. I usually would say something like, "Pockets are a bad choice for doors that're opened frequently", but since your goal is a hermit-like existence, I figure the door'll stay open most of the time anyway. 2) Go with a pocket door for your bedroom ... and place a hinged door in the hallway so that you have a small "hallway" that's part of the bedroom, and the bathroom door's in that small hallway. Yes, I think a closet is required for the room to officially be a bedroom.

Cheryl--girl, how much cooking are you doing that you need two dishwashers? Haha, just teasing--I think it's great that you're getting what you want in your kitchen!! I agree that it would be smart to put at least one outlet in your utility closet. It's less expensive to do it now than have the electrician make a separate trip out later. I'm hoping you'll post a reveal when your kitchen's finished!! And maybe some before and during photos? I've been dealing with my own kitchen nightmare this week. I bought this old fixer upper and the whole electrical system is fading fast. The other day we plugged a microwave into an "iffy" outlet and tripped the circuit. Unfortunately, it blew every outlet on the wall, including the one for the refrigerator! Once I confirmed there was no coming back to life for those outlets, we had to find an alternative outlet for the fridge. I decided the safest thing to do was to plug it into an outlet on a wall where we get consistent power and never trip the circuit breaker...so now we have a very attractive (haha!) orange extension cord going from the kitchen through the middle of the living room. OK, hideous, but we have cold food. I can't afford to rewire the whole house until September, so until then, it is what it is. Joy (my daughter) is freaking out because in two weeks we're having a garden party and about 15 ladies will be here. I told her our friends will still love us despite the orange extension cord. :-) practigal--my "dust buster" is actually a Dirt Devil. I love it! Basically, for not a huge cost, your electrician can do something at the electrical panel (don't ask me the specifics, I'm not an electrician) that makes every outlet in your house a surge protector! You never have to plug your electronics into a surge protector again. An electrician over on the electrical wiring forum told me about it, and I checked it out, and when I get my house rewired in September, I'm definitely getting it! will absolutely need gown hanging space, lots of shoes, room for tall boots (ideas?), purse storage, etc. Do you mean you have a lot of evening gowns that must be stored, or do you mean a hook to hang a night gown you're going to wear again? If you mean wear-again items, do you also need a place to hang worn-once workout clothes or jeans you're going to wear again before they're washed? Regardless, I say start by cleaning out what you haven't worn in a while, then inventory just how many "long items" and just how many "short items" you have ... then you can make an intelligent decision (rather than a guess) about how much space you need for hanging items. Shoes are space hogs in the closet, and 8x10 may not stretch as far as you need with "lots" of shoes. Things to consider: - You can get a shoe ottoman, which opens up and gives you a place to sit down and a place to store shoes inside. - You might take some of the shoes out of the closet and put them into a shoe storage item at the foot of your bed. - In so many online pictures, the homeowners use the back wall for shoes ... seems like a good idea. - As for tall boots, I'd plan to keep them under dresses ... and buy a couple dollar-store pool noodles to make them "stand up" and keep their shape. Why the double doors for a closet? Depending upon how your room is laid out, you might want your doors to open "out" into your bedroom so nothing's covering up your clothes in the room. Personally, I'm going with NO doors on my closet. Use height as much as you can. Yes. If you have high ceilings, you might look into handicapped pull-down bars. If you have the height, they'll allow you to have a third row of clothes ... way up top: For last minute touch ups my fold away ironing board could not live without it! See, this is why you have to consider your personal needs. I gave my ironing board to the Salvation Army a decade ago and haven't been sorry yet! We love having pullout valet bars in the closet especially when packing for a trip. Oh, I want valet bars! I almost always lay out my clothes the night before, and I know I'd use them. A pretty hook would do. I have an over-the-door hanger for this purpose right now, and it's okay, but it isn't pretty. Things I think you should consider: Do you intend to include drawers or shelves for your folded items ... or will you have a dresser outside the closet? Do you intend to keep a hamper in the closet? Do you need to set aside space in the closet for linens? Do you want a mirror in the room? This could go on the doors. The ceiling is a great place to bring in something decorative without wasting space. Don't forget good lighting. You might consider an automatic light, which would come on automatically when you enter the closet. On that subject, consider lighted hanging rods: What would you like to store in baskets? They're prefect for things that look messy even when they're folded neatly (like shorts, swim suits, or pajamas) ... whereas, things like jeans look neat when they're folded. Do consider picking up a bunch of matching hangers, and -- once your closet is perfect -- make a "one in, one out" rule. What accessories do you need to store? Do you wear lots of scarves, or do you want to store jewelry in the closet? Do you need to allot space for coats, or do you have a coat closet elsewhere in the house? If you're short, you might want to include a spot for a small stool.
