Review of all the mail order roses
Comments (27)I agree with the Crimson Bouquet. It's the best small sized rose bush in my garden too. I'm surprised not more people grow her. Thanks for this review and others comments as well, because I had no idea of all the places to get good roses. I should relay my experience too with the few I have ordered from. Heirloom: good healthy plants but only two have bloomed in their first year. I am assuming that's normally the case with new roses and for own root. I bought two Earth Angels and both are sending blind shoots. Red Minimo bloomed like crazy. Blue For You bloomed like crazy. Abraham Darby is too new to say. I personally like Heirloom but it is very expensive I must say. All their roses have sent basals from the roots so I am happy. J&P: I recieved one band of Ballerina that hasn't bloomed and I don't expect it to till a few years but is doing great! I got two bareroot roses that are doing fine as well. One is Heirloom which was free and is doing exceptionally well and Spice it Up which is taking a little long to establish. I will say I have some pest eating the buds before they can form properly and that may have been the problem with the two EAs as well not blooming yet. High Country Roses: I got a Paul Neyron where the top growth looked amazing and there was an ok amount of root mass. It didn't fall apart when I transplanted it so I am waiting to see how it does. Rogue Valley Roses: I got three bands from them and while the root mass on all of them was massive the stems look a very sickly yellow and one stem on one plant of the two is maroon with some white stuff on it. Still waiting for them to look better. They are starting some signs of new growth as the bud eyes are starting to swell. Hopefully they will be ok. I got a Dakota Redwing, Yves Piaget, and Bouquet Parfait. I needed a couple shade tolerant roses. Yves is the only one going in a pot in the front. That's only if it starts growing more before the fall cutoff planting time too. I need to try Palatine this fall if they get the roses I want back in stock. Also K&m sounds good too. I did preorder from David Austin for next year and it was my first time. I hope it won't be a disappointment. The only thing that is a bit confusing to me personally is the nurseries that just have a list of roses with no real way to know which are currently in stock. There is no online cart. How do you order? Call or email? Sorry nooby here!...See MoreYou are all enablers! I need a mail order suggestion
Comments (10)Hey Alexa, There is also the variegated Eureka lemon. Im not sure exactly what the Variegated Pink lemon is that Four Winds sells. Logees has one that they also sell called the Variegated Pink lemon and I believe all they say is that it's a "spanish lemon". I would only order citrus from 2 companies but that's becauce there the only 2 I ever buy from anymore. That's Four Winds Citrus and Logees. I much prefer Four Winds. I also think it's important for you to know that you pay for what you get. When I 1st ordered from Four Winds, I thought "Holy crap there expensive!" but the size and quality of that 2-3 year old tree was amazing! I have NEVER seen any citrus that looked that good from mail order! Now as far as Logees, in my experience they can truly be a mixed bag. I either recieve very nice, healthy and robust citrus, or I get these tiny, spindly, what look like rooted cuttings, with poor root systems. Another thing about Logees is that there notorious for shipping infested plants. A good friend of mine ordered a bunch of stuff from them and there order had maggots in it! YES MAGGOTS!!! AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, it took them months and months to get the owner to respond to my buddies complaint and even then they really didn't do too much about it. Patty who I am hoping will chime in here, also knows of some great citrus suppliers. I forget the name of the company but if she doesn't post here, I will check my email and get back to you. There's also Larry Orchids on Ebay but I have never ordered from them. There prices seem very fair but I would check out Garden Watch Dog. There a site that helps people with finding out if the company sells quality products. Good luck Alexa and keep us posted! Andrew...See MoreWhat mail orders are you waiting for?
Comments (18)Well, finally this year I can contribute to a thread like this one. The 50 foot farmerÂs porch has been added to one side of the kitchen and the new addition is going up right now on the other side, so I can finally do some landscaping around the house. ThatÂs a big part of my orders this year, besides filling in around the existing gardens and replacing a few losses. Also, I had the same experience as hostasz6a with Bluestone. One plant did not ship last year, and they sent me a postcard this spring 1) reminding me of that fact (I certainly forgot), and 2) offering free shipping on anything I ordered before the backorder shipped in May. Saved me about $25 in shipping costs. Right now, I have the following orders in: From Bluestone (wonÂt ship until mid-May) Hosta Blue Angel Hosta Francis Williams Hosta Guacamole Hosta Halcyon Hosta Middle Ridge Hosta Patriot Hosta Sum and Substance Achillea x Paprika (3) Artemisia schmidtiana Silver Mound (3) Coreopsis verticillata Moonbeam (3) Dianthus x allwoodii Desmond (3) Veronica teucrium Crater Lake Blue (3) Veronica spicata Red Fox (3) Brunnera Jack Frost Astilbe Red Sentinel (3) Astilbe Taquetii Hybrids (3) Astilbe Peach Blossom (3) Echinacea Rubinstern (3) From QVC/Cottage Farms (some have just started to ship today, yippee) 9 Piece Dwarf Reblooming Daylily Collection 3 pc Nor'Easter Sub-Zero Rose Collection 25pc. Giant Asiatic Lily Mixture Collection 50 Mixed Perennial Asiatic Lilies 4pc Dwarf Perennial Luna Hibiscus Collection 56pc. Dwarf Hardy Gladiolus Collection Red Freedom Rose of Sharon Hibiscus Tree 36" Black Magic Standard Tree Rose Royal Amethyst 36" Standard Tree Rose 36" Red Fountain Tree Rose 36" Pink Fountain Tree Rose 3 piece Endless Summer Hydrangea Collection Pink Sensation Tree Hydrangea From Miller Nursery (will ship in a week or two) White Mulbery (2) BlackGold Cherry Fall Red Everbearing Raspberries (3) Shallots (1/2 pound) I also will have a pretty large order with Richters to replace some of my herbs that were lost this past winter (it was a tough one up here for the garden). Won't place that for another week or so, until I am certain of what made it and what didn't. I will be busy for the next few weeks. narcnh...See MoreRecs For Mail Order Companies With Decent Shipping Prices
Comments (15)...oh my goodness where do I start... I love Cotinus 'Grace'.... in my last garden it grew huge and I pruned it late winter - easy to do, a pleasure to saw through or lop off... my plant was 10 foot by 8 foot and I tried to keep it that way...although you don't get all the smoky flowers with pruning... ...I like that woodland setting above there but this is my plant in this garden, against a fence and fairly exposed... it's young but it should be 8 foot or so by this summer... it's big and butchy but mine will have to be as I have clematis to support and now a climbing rose will be using it too, but it's strong enough for all that...with a good open structure.... ...another plus is the long lasting autumn colour, and here I just think it's unbeatable in this country... I do hope you like it as much as I do......See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
