Comments (8)nikinikinine, thanks for posting the pics. Its so helpful to see things. Very pretty floor tile and the smaller 3x6's are a nice soft blend. I like the Sterling grout & is a possibility. That might be the color for my black slate to give some contrast. I am still waiting for my samples to arrive in the mail. I'll have to check the underlying color IRL. For the walls I will check the white and silver shadow samples to see which is best. Then I will be ordering products online from one of the venders linked on the Laticrete site....See MoreSurvey: what color grout should I use on my back splash? pictures
Comments (9)Well, vintage was the original idea because this is a remodel of our family farm's kitchen that my in-laws for several generations have lived in. Now we have lived here for 20 years and it was time to replace the 65 year old cupboards. We have college kids and they hated to see the old stuff go so I tried to keep the spirit of the place. The counters are soapstone, the knobs are the black iron that Amerock makes. The exposed hinges match. The wood is cherry. Thanks for both of your comments. Score 1 to 1. Comments (3)So , regrouting after all is said and done is a reliable and sure backup plan. As well as it might look nicer to have everything all freshened up as well. Grout is cheap and easy too. ok that being said here is another option that I have often heard my painting buddies discuss but have never tried myself. Use petroleum jelly as masking over the grout. Brush it on the grout, do your refinishing, then clean it off. In the event you get some stain bleeding over( which I believe may happen no matter what) you can always go to plan B , regrout. If it were me I would plan on plan B. Petroleum jelly can be a contaminant for your finish and I think a good finish is more important than preserving some old grout that probably could use an update anyways...See MoreWhite marks on new shower floor grout! Comments (7)Efflorescence will grow out of the grout and will leave a chalky residue on your fingers if you wipe it. If the installer did not use distilled water when mixing the grout, what you're seeing are the minerals in the water that have gone to the surface of the grout when it was curing. Very common especially if you have hard water. Use a flat head screw driver or a knife to etch the surface of the grout, scraping away at the top layer. You will see the true color of the grout below this top layer. Also please note, if the installer used too much water when cleaning the tile after grouting, this too call pull the color pigment from the grout causing it to look very dull....See MoreSandi Lindenkohl
