need help finding a buffet/server for dining room
Comments (3)I had a terrible time finding a sideboard that would suit our home and our needs. I scoured antique/consignment shops, auctions, and looked at all major brands of furniture for something. All told, I spent close to two years on the exercise and I struck out completely. In desperation, I contacted a custom furniture maker, unsure I would be able to afford such a "luxury". Lo and behold! not only did the "custom" route turn out to be "in line" with the prices I had seen, but I was able to have features built into it to accomdate our needs. And in the wood I wanted! And it was made by talented tradesmen in our country. It arrived just over 3 1/2 mos. later (as promised!), in perfect condition, and was placed in its present site by the delivery team. Gone are the stacked silver chests, the piles of linen formerly stuffed into the pantry, and the open flatware organizer that lived on the kitchen counter for years. It ranks as one of the smartest purchases I've ever made, should have done it a year sooner....See MoreHelp Bring My Half Bath into the 21st Century!
Comments (18)Replace the flooring if needed. Remove dated wallpaper, paint or re-wallpaper (love the 2nd bath inspiration pic). Refinish or paint cabinet. Replace counter top, sink, lighting and hard wear. Replace the toilet to a more updated one. Keep walls clear other than mirror and art. I think this is one of the easiest and best updates you can do to your home! Good luck!...See MoreNeed help figuring out a dining table for my Small Dining Room
Comments (9)I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms....See MoreBringing the Garden into the Dining Room
Comments (26)Bumblebeez, I love camellias, but they don't love my decomposed granite, too alkaline. You pretty well have to grow what your conditions will allow, but they must make gorgeous bouquets. OutsidePlaying, modern roses may not do well for you, but old varieties like tea roses (Rosette Delizy above is one) and noisettes do very well there, and they grow into big, magnificent bushes. Do try at least one. On-line nurseries like Angel Gardens or Rose Petals Nursery can advise you on what would do welll for you....See Morelovelywork10
