Ideas to update faux stone veneer?

We love our new neighbors and the inside of our house, but unfortunately we don't love the stone facade on the front. We had a couple ideas of how to update it, while staying within our budget of about $7 to 8k for the front remodel (we have a separate budget already for painting). The sides and back of the house are stucco, and we were thinking of painting those white also with some wood accents somewhere.

We originally wanted to pull all the stone off and replace with board & batten with lots of trim work and some lap siding, but that took us way above budget. So we thought maybe leave some of the stone and paint it white, and then replace the right side with board & batten and cover the bottom part of the stone with wood planters. Or if that comes in above budget too, then we were thinking leave all of the stone and paint it all white, except the two gables, which we're thinking faux cedar shingles?

We are not handy people at all, so we would love input on whether these are good ideas, or if you have other suggestions on how to lose the stone look? We love the look of fresh white with warm wood, so something along those lines - any suggestions are so welcome! Photos with bad photoshop below. :D Thank you!
