Floating shelves - skim coat over supports?
Comments (4)Haven't done it but don't see why it wouldn't work. If the brackets are heavy enough and you have one of the heavy screws near the bend of the 'L', there shouldn't be much (if any) movement, especially since you're attaching directly to the stud vs on top of drywall. In the past, DS installed the lightweight floating shelves and the drywall always ended up allowing movement around the bracket. Comments (12)Because the oven is dark and dead center on the wall, it feels like the real focus of that wall. And then somehow having the open shelving area be roughly the same size/shape as the fridge and having them both flanking the dead center oven ALSO highlights the fridge. To me, you end up with a focal competition between your two appliances and the open shelves, and it's not very pleasing to my eye. I'd suggest doing this instead: I think the eye is much more clearly drawn to the decorative shelves first. That area is both the largest and most central thing. Especially if the fridge you choose is close in color to your cabinets, and you do a colorful or wallpapered wall behind the open shelves....See MoreWhere to get floating wood shelves in Toronto area?

Comments (1)IMO a silly place for dishes and those shelves need to planned well in advance so proper suppot can be built. IMO open shelves in a kitchen collect dust. grease and require cleaning often and honsetly I would do actual cabinets with frosted glass doors . You laso need to figure out if 12” depth is enought either way for your plates....See More- 2 years ago
