I think first you need to figure out what the use for the room will be. Then maybe we can help. Looks to me like a nice space so no nightmare IMO. The FP is a cozy look maybe this is a perfect room for TV since the natural light is block by what appears to be a covered porch. I never like TV in my LR so for me this is a perfect answer.

The built-ins could be nice in these type of colors. And I also like the idea of bringing in gold - in wall color and/or lighting, hardware, various accessories. I love your brick fireplace with the mirror, btw.

I used a light colored gold color on ceiling in this one below. You could alternatively use a warm white or ivory, etc.

I think I would try to tie this room into the rest of the home by painting the trim and cabinetry the same as the door we see out in the other room. The wall color should be based on the fabrics and textiles to be used in the room. Therefore, knowing how you plan to use the room and what kinds of furniture you'll need should be decided before picking paint. You also want to include a lighting plan before you go too far into making color decisions. The light on the ceiling fan should just be the light you turn on in the dark to see your way into the room. Then it should be dimmed or turned off and table, floor and accent lamps can pick up the task of creating a warm, inviting and intimate feeling room. Adding LED lights (don't forget the shelves) can add more "daylight" to the space. Consider creating a library in the end with all the shelves and a cozy sitting area at the fireplace. A small TV in the cabinet could be an option, but I wouldn't treat this as the main TV room in the home. Photos taken without the stretch feature would be more helpful in determining the size and space you actually have to work with here.

I see the stroller so maybe this is a kids playroom? With so many textures going on, I wonder wether getting it to white would be a good way to go and then use the back panels of the built in to add a bright color (if the room is dark I'm not sure I would go dark and moody). Then I love the idea of the gold accents. The built ins could end up being a great place to store all the toys when not in use.

I would definitely paint everything. You could do a nice creamy color and have an accent wall. Or you could paint it a nice gray green blue and keep everything else white or cream.

I would change out the ceiling face to one that is flush mount and maybe one that has not light. Use lots of lamps for your lighting or if you do not need a fan you get a semi flush light fixture.
