Need help with exterior paint color on or 1960 split level
Comments (1)My first suggestions will apply no matter what color combinations you choose. Put shutters only on the brick. Those are the only windows where shutters will fit appropriately. And, whatever the front door color, paint the storm the same. Gray: you need a green undertone to compliment the dark brick. Siding: Horizon Gray Shutters…do in a semi-gloss finish: Desert Twilight Front door and storm: Spice Gold Lovely and different with your brick color....See MoreExterior colors for a 1950's stucco beach house?
Comments (3)I think the color on your chairs or your seating area would look great on your front door. I don't know that I would go a lot darker but a taupe with a bit more depth on the main body of the house with white trim and the aforementioned door would look really good. You didn't say whether you were planning on changing the garage door. If you are and it's painted then I would keep it the same color as the body of the house so it isn't the focal point, which is what you want your front door to be. A frosted glass garage door or a MCM wood door would look good if that's in your budget. A horizontal cedar fence to replace the existing white one would be nice, especially if you went with a wooden garage door. Comments (19)Just remove the shutters and see how that looks. I don't think painting windows with black is going to enhance the house--just adds another element and you do have a brown roof, not black. A much warmer white for the middle would work better with yellow stone and brown roof. Save $$$ for a beautiful landscape design to further beautify the house. But what you have is pretty nice right now. It's important in a newly purchased house to go a year before making landscaping changes so you can see how the plantings look in all seasons. It's great you have quite a few evergreens for year round color--and no leaves to rake!...See MoreHelp! Split Level Exterior.
Comments (14)I honestly don't think the siding color is that bad. It is much better than if the previous owners had mindlessly slapped grey on the house. Some houses of that era had small overhangs to protect whoever had to open the garage door. That would put enough of a break between the two that the colors wouldn't matter. The green shutters I like, and I would paint the garage door to match them. Then the front door could be a brighter green. To my mind, the big problem with the house is that usually these split levels are placed on more sloping ground. Right now, both the living rooms windows and the front door look like they are hanging in midair. So the land/hardscaping has to work to ground those. Allowing the greenery to grow a bit more, and plant something smaller in front would help. I'd also like to find room to put a small shrub between the walk and the driveway....See MoreAshleigh Mark
