Exterior colors for a 1950's stucco beach house?

Hi! I have a stucco house built in 1956 a couple blocks from the beach near San Francisco. It needs to be repainted and I'm at a loss of what colors to choose. I like bright colors and have a lot of turquoise outdoor furniture and tan shade sails so looking for colors that would compliment what I already have. Ideally I would like help picking a main color, trim color and a bright color for the front door. Thank you so much!

NICE!! So start with the garage door & it will be pricey- $3-5k, in cedar MC modern look, large house #'s to the L, vertical, a different light above the garage door- black iron linear. Remove the fence, if you desire one, large 10x10 cedar posts with black cable. Full glass front door in turquoise, large metal exterior light to the L. I would remove the large tree on the L side & replace with ornamental grass, but choose wisely- some grow very large. Does the fence gate lead to the back? If so, light the pathway with garden lights- low. So now the windows. Larger cedar window box on the garage window. and a full length cedar box across the front window. Sorry, I am totally unfamiliar SF climate, I'm thinking a plant called 'elephant ears', inexpensive & come in a variety of bright green/burgundy/spotted large leaves. Lucky You!

I think the color on your chairs or your seating area would look great on your front door. I don't know that I would go a lot darker but a taupe with a bit more depth on the main body of the house with white trim and the aforementioned door would look really good. You didn't say whether you were planning on changing the garage door. If you are and it's painted then I would keep it the same color as the body of the house so it isn't the focal point, which is what you want your front door to be. A frosted glass garage door or a MCM wood door would look good if that's in your budget. A horizontal cedar fence to replace the existing white one would be nice, especially if you went with a wooden garage door.

Just put an addition on my house as well, and it looks very similar to yours, only I have a front porch. Because my house has a hip roof, we were only able to go from an 8 to a 9 foot ceiling for the back addition. Otherwise, it would have looked weird in the front of the house. Your architect will be able to help you with that. I would go somewhere from the front door to that walkway between the garage with the addition in back. I'm not a pro, so don't take my word for it....but I think the placement of the roof lines with that area will make the most sense. You'd be surprised what an update it will make! Lucky for you, your garage is in line with your house.....my was at an angle and made for a VERY tiny laundry room coming in from the garage, but it's just the two of us now and we will make it work. I could only make my addition 20 feet wide because of the angles of the different roof lines and hip roof. It doesn't appear you have that problem, so could make a fairly large addition out of it! I'll try to attach some pictures of mine to give you some ideas of how it transitioned into my roof line. I, too, have two entrances like you. One we use the heck out of, the other one just for moving big things in and out of the house! LOL!!

Removing the arches and changing the posts to square would make a huge difference in the curb appeal. The existing landscaping along the porch is really boring and the example RL Relocation did would make a huge difference. I find double front doors very odd since you're unlikely to actually open both doors when guests arrive. I don't think it would do any favors for your curb appeal. Remove the storm door and maybe get a new front door to make it more welcoming. I think your brick looks pretty classic and it would be a shame to paint, and a maintenance headache over time. I would be more inclined to paint the trim something less stark than white (like gray). I also think your garage door looks pretty nice as it is today.

I agree that your style of home is not meant to be stark white all over. There are a few orange-brick homes with gray trim, gray garage doors in my area. Looks really good. Mid-range gray for trim and slightly lighter shade for doors, shutters, etc. Gray would like great with your yellow front door. I like the look of the back of your house, without the shutters. You might not need them on front. Much as I love trees, I tend to agree about removing the one birch that is in the center of the picture, but I'd keep the other birch at the side.

Yes, the garage will bring the right side at least as far the left wing, probably farther. I think that left bedroom is probably about 1.5 cars wide, so the garage will be wider. We haven't decided on front or side garage doors but I'm sure my husband would rather have side and I'm fine with that. He also wanted to move the door to the center, but we ended up moving so many windows and walls around that he eventually decided it was too much work and decided to let it stay. It would have been nice for the flow inside to move it, and maybe one day, but probably not. I think if the arches go that it will also make the view from the house better/let in more light. They aren't exactly well done to begin with...
