Frameless Shower door install in a unlevel TUB

I purchase a DreamLine Mirage-X shower door to install in my redesigned bathroom. The tub area is tiled around the tub up to the ceiling, The contractor did a great job installing the wall tile, perfectly plumb. The tub is also level front to back. My dilemma is the contractor installed the tub with a 0.5-0.6 inch slope from one side of the tub to the other. The unlevel tub will cause the shower door to have have a gap at the bottom of the door.

My thoughts are to put shims under the horizontal bottom rail to level everything up. Is this a reasonable approach or is the a better way???

1/2"-5/8" is a huge gap, in most cases, the glass would be custom cut to at least meet the max tolerance, but when dealing with an out-of-the-box unit it will be difficult to install it on the out-of-level surface exceeding max allowance, and most likely it will always leak. The max out of level tolerance is 1/4" if I'm not mistaken.

You can try to use a shower door plastic seal, drop one end that might work, but you will always deal with constant adjustments.

What ^^^ he said, which is why out of the box frameless shower (even framed for that matter) seldom work well in my opinion. The adjustability is just not there.

We are getting ready to begin finalizing discussions with our contractor. We have a tub and shower on one wall and I was thinking of undermounting the tub with granite and bringing the slab into the shower as a bench. Then we would bring one side of the frameless glass down flush to the tub deck. The contractor proposed tiling a half wall instead bc he wasn't sure how you get a seal I assume. I have seen many examples of this frameless look coming all the way down, but wondered how do you overcome the contact with granite and sealing? Thought someone out there might know. Also, I am hearing much negativity with using epoxy based trouts bc of set up issues and the fact that there are good, easy to work with grouts out there with advanced sealants. Should I just forget about epoxies?

I think it is a matter of considering all the possible ways you may want to use the room. If you have kids that currently take showers, will you still be in the same house when/if they have children. Do you ever have friends/relatives with small children visiting. Or are you likely to have a guest staying for an extended period. How likely is it that the plans for the master bath could fall through, leaving you without a tub for a longer period. I never use a bathtub, but needed the guestroom tub the other day when a visiting two year old unexpectedly needed a good wash. Those would be the issues for me.

Clear glass and coating on tub/shower frame-less doors?

I would do regular clear instead of the low iron glass (less greenish). The price isn't worth it and the only time you can tell the difference is when your looking at the edge of the glass. As far as the coating, it's amazing against hard water. You won't have to squeegee every day. Hope that helps, I work at a glass company.

We want to have our contractor remove our old bathtub/shower sliding glass doors and frame and replace it with a half or 3/4 frameless hinged glass door . contractor has said sometimes there are marks on tub where frame was affixed to tub . i thought he said marks are more prevalent if the tub is glazed. Tub was purchase in 2011. manufacturer bootz said The finish on the tub is porcelain. It's like glass that is heated to a very hot temp. i don5 know if that is glazed ir not . does anyone haveexperiencewith this, whether there will likely be marks left when old frame is removed, and if so how tbey can be remediated by contractor before they install new door? also, are there recommendations for brand and midel or design of frameless hinged door or doors forthis alcove tub arrangement? see pics of our current tb/shower and one example product i saw online

A shower curtain rod is in your future. Which is far better than a glass tub door. Those are awfully constraining barriers. You hit your elbows constantly when showering, and they are terrible to actually use the tub as a tub too. Very confining.

What are the thoughts about shimming up the bottom rail to make everything level. I'm thinking of layering in thin plexyglass the length of the rail to make up the 0.5 inch differnce. Then caulk up the gap.

The boss (wife) is really set on a glass door.
