Comments (3)Thanks for sharing this information/pics. I had read cilantro flowers attract ladybugs. I have not seen them on the cilantro, but it is flowering right in front of a bed with favas and artichokes (notorious aphid attractors), and there are lady bugs right on the favas. I will plant arugula with this in mind (close to an aphid attractor). I am a little upset with my arugula, since it bolted before we got much of a crops, so I'll be happier to see its flowers (edible too by the way)....See MoreLady Bugs
Comments (5)I'd more likely call it a blessing and a minor nuisance. Lady bugs congregate at my windows in the fall and many do get inside; I just let them go about their business and they quickly hide themselves away. Besides hanging out they don't seem to cause any harm to the house or me. Of course, I've never been bitten or had any type of reaction to them either. Perhaps the variety you have down there is different? I've seen the Asian type here in Maine as well as the "regular ones" and have had them crawling on me with no problems. Maybe you're just really tasty Ted! Jon...See MoreSmall red bug with 3 black spots on back and wings, not lady bugs
Comments (9)It's definitely the bean beetle. This one above has more spots, but after seeing one spot turn to two, it might just be they get older and they get more spots. I've also gone at it with the squash bugs and they are a type of stink bug, they are armored and fairly large. I have only once seen a squash bug fly, didn't know they had wings, but I searched every squash bug, stink bug, I could find, so I am aware of the stink bug you are referring only by picture, none found in the yard yet. I didn't take a picture because I am fairly sure it's the been beetle, just don't know why they are dive bombing my tomatoes. Do they like cannas, lilies, or elephant ears? I hope not, the only bean I planted was nubbed down by a goold ole' rabbit/mole/deer/groundhog/squirrel. I have to say the rabbits are hiding better this year, unlike the groundhog and the squirrel. Well, anyways I found my culprit, it's definitely a red bean beetle, now just to find out what he's eating. I hope not my castor bean plant, isn't it poisonous to bugs too? They are only flying around the tomatoes and those flowers I mentioned above, plus the honeysuckle bush....See MoreIs this a lady bug?
Comments (6)My apologies for latching on to this thread, but I learn so much from the Gardenweb forums. Does anyone recognize this? They're about the same size as the regular ladybugs I'm familiar with. When I transferred a couple to a plastic bottle, they started to crawl up the sides rather than fly away....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
