You've got most of it but it's good that you asked, let's check again, pls. go back to X's post #2 which says in part: "Get a decent sized clay pot ... **Use a very porous mix ** - I wouldn't have a problem with even 100% perlite or pumice or similar." Also, forget misting this, it's not a tropical plant, I'd predict rot w/ that. If you must mist, then mist THE MIX, not the plant. That way the plant will not be wet & hopefully will have to grow a root or 2 to take moisture FROM the mix. PS: since you grow Orchids: It's from Orchid Growers that I learned about Cinammon's use as an antifungal. Brush it on the area w/ small brush or dab on w/ Q-tip, then shake off the excess & continue.

Hi! So I'm a newbie to the cacti parenting world and was hoping someone may be able to tell me if I'm doing this right? I picked these cuties up from Home depot a couple months ago. The yellow one had this great flower bud looking like it might bloom soon but now it looks like I killed it. When I first got them they didn't have the little...bulbs? on the side of them or on top (like my red one.) I thought this was a sign I was doing well with them but now I'm worried I might be doing the same to the cacti that I did to the flower and I of course don't want that! So what I've been doing is checking the soil every week to feel if it feels like it's completely dry. Usually by the end of the week it feels that way. so I take them out of the decorative pots (cause they don't have drainage holes) and water them thoroughly with a slow but steady sink stream. Once the soil seems to have sufficient water, I allow the extra water to drain into the sink before putting them back into their decorative pots and putting them back on the windowsill for direct sunlight. I read that in winter you shouldn't water them as much (like once a month?) but we are still in fall her in NC. Am I doing this right or just being an idiot? I'm kinda bummed I lost the little flower but if I can encourage them to grow more I want to try! But mostly I want to be a good cacti parent.

As I said, I would wait till spring to repot. Many people make their own soil mix on this forum, like gritty mix, while others amend packaged soil with copious amounts of perlite. What you want is something that is not water retentive, so the roots do not sit in a wet soil, which can lead to root rot, and death of the plant. This time of year I might water once every two weeks, but it depends on your particular conditions, such as the dryness of the room, the temperature, and the soil it is in now. I prefer my succulents in terra cotta clay pots, which breathe, unlike glazed or plastic pots. Would love to see a photo of the plant. Euphorbia is a large and fascinating genus of plants, I have quite a few myself. Good luck with yours. Christopher

No guarantees - I'd use some of the commercial cactus mix and I'd put it into a fairly small pot, no bigger than a centimetre wider all round than the plant. Have the mix barely damp. If the piece you have left is quite tall then only put about an inch of mix in the bottom of a pot that has plenty of holes, and rest the bottom of the piece on the mix. Let it be supported by the side of the pot. If it is still wobbly - you could use ice lolly sticks to support it as well. Be prepared to wait for months for roots to begin. It might be sooner but it could just as easily take from now to the end of summer. Don't despair. Give it good light but not direct sun. Every fortnight or or so - provide a teaspoon of water but no food. The water needs to drain away quickly. If you can't bear the suspense any longer and pick it up - if the bottom is dry and has little knobs forming around the edges - they're probably the nubs of roots. Put it back. Keep on being patient.
