Thanks woodsfairy and dragonfly. I hope you do save the stone walls on your property. So many of them are being lost to develpment or just torn down and used for other things. 100 years from now I would be really sad if someone tore my walls up (since I will be dead by then I would have to come back and haunt them! :0 ) I think they're an art form, really, as well as being something practical. Just an update - the pergola came in and we're staining it ebony. Needs another coat, but I've included a few shots. The last of the rock is in as well, so Jesse will be working on the wall this week now that school is out. I found an awesome book on dry-laid stone walls called , "In the Company of Stone", by Dan Snow. Very creative and beautiful stuff. I got a lot of ideas for the Ruined wall from it. I had wondered if it might be Falling Water slate(I had seen that tile on this forum months ago). I do like Falling Water,(though I've never seen in it person, only in photos.) However, I believe that the stones in Falling water are only either 1" or 3/4" high, and the ones in the "mystery photo" appear to have some larger ones in there. I would like some larger ones like that. Maybe I could call the company to be sure. epressler--thanks so much for the link. I followed it, and fortunately, the photo had a tag (hover over with the mouse) giving the name of the supplier and of the stone!! How cool is that (don't you wish all those design photos did that!)So I googled, and I will put the link below to the tile supplier, Statements Tile, for anyone else who might be interested. I think I may email the mystery photo to both those tile companies and just ask if it could be there stone! Gigi- the photo came from Boxerpups' collection of design photos--as far as I can tell from her photo bucket album, there is no info from where it came! Newchapter--I wondered about limestone,too. Leave it empty. It's a geometric design feature, not a ledge for piling stuff.

I removed some things around your fireplace. Your stone is lovely - let it take center stage. Oakley's link is a good one to take as as inspiration. You need some items that fill 1/2 to 3/4 of the height, and that have some depth. Baskets are relatively inexpensive and a nice texture. Some larger ceramic items are good too - maybe some ceramic planters. If you come across something that is the right size and shape but the wrong colour, spray paint can fix that if it's not a precious item. Even metal spray paint. Framed pictures are too flat and square, even if they are larger than the ones you have now. Small framed pictures look good grouped on a hallway wall where they can be appreciated close up. There is some stone that I would paint or whitewash but not yours. I like it just as it is.
