With that much invested, just wait. Try some of these strategies like lighting, adding accent colors and stuff to the room. Live with it a while. If it doesn't grow on you, then decide. Money is too tight for me to hire a repaint. I've had three experiences to relate. One day while I was at work, my dad painted a room for me in my new home with a color I had carefully chosen beforehand. Got home, saw pepto bismol but no way was I ever going to be able to repaint right away due to dad's pride and happiness. I actually joined this board way back then posting for advice on how to tone it down. You can tone down a color you hate by matching it with similar colors close in tone. That's what I did with my room. I never loved it, but it became tolerable, maybe even pleasant. Second instance, my landlady went paint shopping with me and helped me paint my back bedroom. She bought what I thought was a baby poo color for her own bedroom. Even after painting it, I wasn't in love with it, but once she got all the furniture and the matching bedspread, and art in there, I must say it looked FABULOUS. Like a total different reaction from me from when I saw the paint chip and sample on the wall. It related so well to everything else in the room it was a fabulous choice. As for myself and my back bedroom, I LOVE my color on the walls, but my carpet makes it skew blue and I wanted more grey. I'm also not in love with it with my furniture. I like it though, I can live without perfection. It is so much better than the wall color was before, and it is adequate for what I want it to do. In fact, I wanted the color to do so much that the perfect color may not even be out there. My expectations were a tad high. I say, make do and then if after a while it just makes you unhappy all the time, then if you have the time and money, repaint. I lived with carpet and wall color and wallpaper in my master bedroom for 12 years that I hated. We called the master bedroom "the aquarium" because the teal carpet and trim was so cloying. But we had so many other projects to do at the house that room never got its makeover. Part of the reason was the previous owners painted all the trim a teal color and it had a LOT of trim, including a bay window and seat and folding closet doors, all teal. I worked with it as best I could. I had a "Miami Vice" bedroom, lol!

I’m leaning towards one color but husband likes two color idea. Here’s a poor shot that shows roof color. I will try to get a sunny one, but I’m in Oregon and the law is that it’s only sunny during the day on work days.

My two "go to" whites are Benjamin Moore's "White Dove " OC-17, it's a very nice white on it's own and can be used alone or as a trim for any other color. My second standard white is Kelly Moore's "Swiss Coffee". The good thing about Swiss Coffee is a lot of painters use it as their standard white, and some cabinet companies use it as their white. You can color match either color in your favorite brand of paint. I have recently started using the Sherwin Williams brand, and although the paint doesn't seem at thick as Benjamin Moore's, when you use their higher grade "Super Paint", I was able to have a dark gray cover in one coat of a light tan. I carefully took every bit of great advice here into account, did a bit more research, consulted with my husband, chatted with the Benjamin Moore associate... and once again in the scramble to make a decision, sort of messed up. I chose "Pure White" (which was one of the suggestions here in this thread, thank you so much, although I only realized later it was for SW Pure White, not BM Pure White, which is different). So this is what it looks like -- colour not captured accurately on my iPhone, but it looks quite greenish-bluish-white much of the day, and warmer at other points. In real life it looks less dingy than it does in the pic. It's more stark than I was envisioning, but we'll definitely happily live it for a while! (Click pics to see fuller image.) (Incidentally we'll be changing the lights, hardware, etc.; will post questions in a separate post.) Now we have a new dilemma. The very faintly blue-greenish new shade on the wall really draws attention (to my eye anyway) to the fact that the bath ceiling tiles are warm off-white in contrast to the cool white of the other tiles beneath the black bullnose line. (How the original owners made their decisions is always a mystery to us! Still, we want to keep some degree of this 50s vibe, not to mention we really don't want to gut this plaster-and-lathe room built like a tank.) Here on the upper left you can see the upper tiles whose beigey tone really stands out now against the new paint: Any thoughts you might have on that upper beige tile problem would be most welcome! I am half considering having one of those "tile painting" guys come and spray the whole upper section a cool white, but my husband thinks that may turn into a whole new headache.
