Sour (Seville) Orange Locations
Comments (3)I'm sorry, Flores, I just realized that Four Winds cannot ship to you. They cannot ship to other "citrus" states (AZ, FL, TX). Best bet is to call your best garden center near you, as fruitmentor has suggested, and ask if they can source a Seville orange for you. You have several local citrus growers in AZ that can ship in your state. Another option is to call your local Master Gardener association and ask where you can purchase a Seville orange. Comments (13)I remember reading your original post and wondering what a 'Sour Orange' was, which led to many google searches and lots of learning. I have a large plant collection and I get rooted cuttings/seedlings or potted plants as gifts all the time and sometimes I remember what they are or keep track of the tags that come with them and sometimes I don't. Long after your post I was digging through the pile of pots of plants that never made it into winter storage because I ran out of time and space in the hoophouse and low and behold one of the survivors was a small Sour Orange - it even had its tag buried in the soil! Last winter was mighty cold here in Raleigh and it never lost a leaf. It may have been sheltered from all the jumble of pots around it or from the slab of asphalt it was sitting on - however it did it, I am amazed at its cold hardiness....See MoreSour oranges/Mojo recipe
Comments (2)Well, it's too much oil to be canned, and without the oil it wouldn't be mojo, just flavored citrus juice. On top of that, canning changes the flavor of citrus, and it would lose that fresh flavor. How about freezing the juice in whatever portion you want to use it in? 2/3 cup if you usually make the whole recipe, or in ice cube trays if you want to make smaller portions as needed. Then you just heat the oil & garlic and add the seasonings. I think that would give you the best taste. Melissa...See MoreDoes grafting a sour orange seedling make it sweet?
Comments (0)A: No. The sour orange is Citrus aurantium. It is also known as the Seville orange, famed for its use in English marmalade. Sweet orange is Citrus sinensis, an entirely different species. Sour oranges will always be sour, and sweet oranges will always be sweet. In areas of the world where tristeza virus is not present, sweet orange grafted to sour orange rootstock gives sweet oranges of exceptionally good quality. But the tristeza virus has made that combination rarer and rarer, recently, since it kills the trees. Sour orange can be grown as a scion, but its fruits will always be sour, regardless of the rootstock used. Information Provided by Malcolm_Manners...See MoreDave in NoVA • N. Virginia • zone 7A
