I also know you didn’t ask. And it certainly isn’t necessary. But I wonder if you gave extra backsplash tile?
I would take it up to the ceiling if you can.
But that’s my personal taste.

What a fantastically huge kitchen. I'm jealous of your counter space.

Can you say more about why you want different lights? Do you want to add more color to your space, more texture, you want something more fun, or is there are particular style you want more of? Are you trying to tone down the stainless look of the space?

Also, will you be redoing other elements of your kitchen? Are you aiming to replace with the same number of pendents or are you opening to changing the number and patching and painting the while ceiling as part of the work?

Personally, your lights are my favorite thing about your kitchen! If it were my space, I'd get different stools and fewer of them. (I know that is probably not a helpful opinion!)

I want something a little less “diner-esque.” It feels either that or clinical, especially in addition to the amount of stainless already in the kitchen.

I do plan/hope to redo the kitchen but instead of a full remodel, I think I’ll be more likely to piecemeal it for now by changing the vent and cooktop, the undermount sink and maybe the backsplash for now. It’s the most poorly done tile backsplash I’ve ever seen and it goes to the ceiling. 🤦🏻‍♀️

In 5-7 years when I feel justified in changing all of the floors (the house is only two years old so I feel wasteful doing if right now), I may do a full remodel with new cabinetry and new countertops, but hope to reuse the cooktop and range come that time.

I do plan to get new counter seating. I don’t like these much either but I bought them off of the first owner for a bargain because i didn’t feel like spending money on new counter stools (and six of them with spare for one more!!) until I knew what look/feel I’d be going for in the kitchen.

I hear you on going with 4 and obviously it’s ultimately up to you.
But I think price wise it’ll come out the same or similar. And visually it might be a nice change.

Maybe you can try it and return if you don’t like.

In terms of brass vs black. That’s up to you. I like mixing metals but agree you would have to tie it in, in another place as well.

I assume that the pendants are evenly spaced with the island...hard to see. Going from 4 to 3 or 2 might not be an option unless you are willing to hire an electrician and redo the ceiling drywall...and paint it.

I see two problems, the "new lights" being suggested are not going to give you any "working light" at the counter, and reducing down may create a balance issue. Do you have a straight-on photo of the island rather than this side angle?
