Building a traditional colonial
Comments (10)My husband and I are building in Delaware County- Thornton PA, it is a 4133 sqft center hall colonial with stone exterior, 4 bedroom 3.5 bathrooms. Not counting the cost of the land we are at $600,000 for construction which includes a very expensive septic system (might just pay to bring in public sewer) so depending on your lot it could be less. We also have nice finishes which include hardwood throught the first floor, custom cabinets, nice millwork etc. definitely not spec home. I can give you the name of our builder we LOVE HIM and swear by him. Seriously he is the most knowledgable and honest person we have met in the business thus far. He does a lot of mainline homes too. If you want more information about our home and building process you can follow our blog at www.tateoftheunion.com we will be documenting the whole process!!!!! Comments (24)I am a HUGE fan of Timberlane shutters in PA. The quality of these shutters is extraordinary. I have had them on my house now for 16 years - had them painted by my local painter, still look great. My DD got them about 3 years ago and they now offered the color she wanted in a factory paint job. The rep told me that these same shutters had been on the outside of their building in PA (harsh winters there!) now for 19 years and still looked great. One of the things they offer is copper guards that slip right on top of the shutter. Shutters tend to rot from water getting into the seams where the shutter dowels are held. This prevents that from happening. I think this is part of their success. Yes, they are expensive, but they will last for many decades with little if any maintenance required....See MoreHelp with updating our traditional Tudor home with stone exterior.
Comments (12)I would try to match the color of the large bottom stone in between the two large windows - or maybe a just a bit lighter version - for the stucco. Then see if SW Urbane Bronze works well with it for the trim. Charcoal gray would work with a lighter more neutral stucco, but make sure that it is a tone of gray that works well with the stones. The yellow has to go, definitely!...See Morewhat colors would go with the below brick on our colonial??
Comments (5)Thanks everyone! Landscaping is being ripped out as soon as the ground thaws I can’t wait!! Was planning to post separate for that once it was cleared but any ideas appreciated!! Unfortunately we have to repair and repaint due to woodpecker damage 😐😡, we would never get a return on investing in what the cost of siding would be so I figured if we have to paint if there was a way to modernize it at all I might as well look into it!...See Morenf08
