Comments (12)If you're considering electric, I have to tell you my Breville story. I bought our first one on Ebay for $20. Several months later one of the kids dropped it and the handle broke. We used it all the time, so I contacted Breville to see about getting a new handle. Even though I bought it on Ebay, and I told them how the handle got broken, they insisted on sending me a whole new unit, BUT...the model I had was no longer current, so 'would I mind if they sent the new one?' It was a larger and better featured model with the retail at $99. I thought we might be able to 'suffer through' and deal with that. :-) It is better than the first one, which we loved. Breville sure made a fan of me, and I've heard other similar stories about how they stand behind their products and expect them to last for people....See MoreFavorite grilled sandwich and pan to cook it in?
Comments (9)Cheese melted on bread is one of my favorite food groups! I like to make my own low-tech grilled panini sandwiches to have with a bowl of soup for a light supper in cool weather. One combo is sliced turkey or chicken breast, strips of roasted red pepper, and sliced Monterrey Jack cheese. I spread the sliced crusty bread with mayonnaise that has some shredded Parmesan cheese mixed in, then brush some melted butter on my low tech panini pan: ~ the pan is a small round cast iron grill pan that has raised ridges in it; I get it medium hot then brush a little oil or melted butter on the pan and lay the sandwich in it; to press the sandwich, I lay another small cast iron pan on top of the sandwich which weighs down the sandwich; just lift the top pan, turn the sandwich and replace the pressing pan on top. The results are a deliciously crunchy grilled panini filled with warm meat, veggies, and melted cheese. Another combo is sliced pork roast, sliced sharp cheddar and mayo mixed with chutney - usually my cranberry orange chutney that I make during the holidays. Caramelized onions would be good with sliced Italian deli meats and provolone. Think about classic combinations such as ham and Swiss, cheddar or gruyere, roast beef with Swiss and sauteed mushrooms, sauteed zucchini and onions with mozzarella, and one of my favorites, crisp bacon, tomato slices, and any good melting cheese. "The honey mustard dressing gives the chicken plenty of pizzazz, and the apples and pecans lend a lively crunch," notes Lisa Huff of Birmingham, Alabama. 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1-1/2 tsp. honey 3/4 tsp. snipped fresh dill 3/4 tsp. Dijon mustard Dash salt Dash pepper 1 cup cubed cooked chicken breast 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 cup chopped peeled apple 1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted 6 slices white bread 4 tsp. butter, softened In a small bowl, combine the first six ingredients. In another bowl, combine the chicken, cheese, apple and pecans; add dressing and toss to coat. Spread half of the chicken salad on two slices of bread. Top each with another slice of bread, remaining chicken salad and remaining bread. Spread butter on both sides of sandwiches. Cook on a panini maker or indoor grill until bread is toasted and cheese is melted. Yield: 2 servings. Comments (12)I have the Breville. It was a gift and I was planning on returning it because I didn't need a single use appliance or to have to find a place to store it. We decided to try it. We kept it and now our son has one too. He loved it. The Breville heats very quickly, cooks quickly and evenly and cleans easily. If I were going to buy one, I would consider the one that has the changeable plates so it can be used for more. Even without that though, we've found that you can reheat a slice of pizza in a hurry and without heating the oven and other such exciting gourmet adventures. I have three Breville appliances and I don't think you can go wrong with them....See More- 4 years ago
