Pouring porch, walkway, driveway
Comments (3)Yes! Porch is likely ok but you certainly don't want heavy equipment on your driveway/sidewalk. You'll possibly have a crane for trusses, HEAVY truck for drywall, possibly some truckloads of dirt if you need to fill the lot at all, etc. We've just finished drywall/final grade in the next few days, siding this week and are planning our driveway in the next few weeks. Just finish work and deliveries at this point....See MoreConcrete driveway was poured today and now its pouring rain.
Comments (42)The main reason for cracks is bc nine times out of ten when the contractor lets the concrete set up and start to dry and then goes again and adds water to it it causes the concrete to become weaker and weaker the more times it cures and then water is applied again. Also it can happen when 2b is put down and not compacted before a pour the ground and 2b shifts with causes the concrete to crack. The 1 inch cut thats done in the concrete is so when or if the concrete should crack break bc of movement or weight it would break evenly and not cause a spider web break. Its never really recommended to pour on a very hot day and if you can avoid it then avoid it bc its better on a cool day being the concrete will dry on its own anyways either in cold conditions or under water but will not avoid the cause of flaking or cracking by doing so. No one should ever add water if qhen the concrete sets up and if you push your finger down in it and see your print or feels dry. But that's if the pour was done in the last 4 hours bc with in that time your able to fix it after 4 hours then no water or anything bc you can mees up the cycle if its curing process. But if it rains within the 4 and 8th hour its ok bc it will be hard enough so the rain water don't mess anything up. Now if you notice that the rain drops caused a problem and theirs standing water its ok to take a garden hose and pull the access water off and try to fix it but try not to cause more damage then it has bc remember you didn't want to mess the process up that has started or create more damage....See MoreUrgent help! Lay bluestone on concrete pathway
Comments (0)Hi, urgent! Contractor coming! I want to convert my front pathway to blue stone. The original plan was to remove all the 15 concrete pavers and replace with blue stone w proper base to grade the water away from the house w a french drain. Q1. What's consist of proper base support for blue stone pavers? Q2. Contractor now wants to keep the old concrete paver, pour new concrete on top of old to bring it to proper level, then put blue stone on top, is this right? Whats r the cons? Q3. For the 2 concrete steps, we r putting a 1 piece blue stone on top of the existing step, then add broken stone on the kickers. Basically a stone veneer on the steps, what should I be watch out for? Comments (6)Yes I would have a nice wide walkway. I would also second @Yvonne Martin suggestion to consider a path from the street to the front door. There was a recent post where a homeowner was adding one after the fact and it was more complicated due to existing landscaping. My house has a walkway just like that: one from the driveway and one from the street (well, sidewalk technically). Both get used regularly whether it's for guests or for me to get the mail. I also like the inviting look of a walkway straight to the front door....See MoreDeeDee Homeowner
