Comments (9)Doris, I am hoping to have seeds from my new Silene Purple Prince which has stunning foliage and also my seed grown Polemonium Purple rain got me totally awesome dark brown/ dark purple foliage, seeds should be easily collected from both of them- love them as plants. Stage_rat, between those downpours potted up few bluebells for you, also got you a chunk of that brunnera you wanted last year. Per Gonenativegal request I potted up few primulas, unfortunately by now I only can say they are from Barnhaven primrose seeds, most likely some polyanthus and denticulata ones. Am still dealing with WS plants, not to mention plants in the garden that keep taking over territory. Anemone Elegans is thinking to take over another spot and I am not even mentioning Anemone robutussima- while it is great bloom show- it started to be needing yearly effort to contain. Does not transplant well so I will pot some up now to be established for later. Seems that hot Friday weather got pretty good germination boost to some WS seeds. Had pretty good germination on Salvia aethiopis, african or mediterranian sage which is native in Europe and stunning IMHO, considered to be weed in California but since it might be marginally hardy for me here I am hoping its survival skills will let it grow in my garden. it is unfortunate that it has been raining on weekend when I am actually off work, boy, so much gardening to be done.... last year I had somewhat poor germination on my fancy japanese MG so this year expecting it to be even lower from last year seeds I dumped them all into germinating tray and low and behold I think I have 110% germination- am swimming in those MG seedlings and since they all kind of fancy- Fujishibori, Kawaru, split petaled, Hige fluffy ones, double picotee etc, have to make room for every seedling.......See MoreIt's Raining, It's Pouring!
Comments (7)Joellen, That was cute. I'm glad y'all got the rain. I did sleep and didn't wake up and do any canning during the night either, although I probably should have. I have a lot to do early this morning. I sure was hoping I'd awaken to the sound of raindrops hitting the roof, but it didn't happen. I watched the radar last night and was hoping rain would reach us, but it all stayed just about 10-15 miles west of us, barely touching the far western end of our county. The county (Jefferson County) immediately west of us had heavy rain and now has a flood advisory, and I'm glad they got the rain because they have been really dry there and were starting to have pasture fires and hay bale fires. Hopefully the rain they got will stop those fires for a while. Suzie, I hope some of that rain found you. It sure looks like a lot fell over much of our fair state. Carol, I'm glad the hail missed you. It would be so distressing to have hail hit when the tomatoes are starting to ripen. The most fruit I've ever had on an oxheart was 3. They may like your soil and climate better than they like mine, but I've never had one produce enough here to earn a return invitation for a second season. We want to see a 'BLT Alert' when you get have that first one. On the radar this morning, rain is all around us, but not falling here. Maybe some of the rain will eventually get here. I'm watching Alex's storm track as it emerges from the Yucatan peninsula and out into the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe if it hits in/near Texas, it will send gulf moisture our way. By saying that, I'm not saying I want Alex to intensify to hurricane strength and hit the coast, but I'd love for the tropical storm system to send us a little moisture. Dawn...See MoreHELP!!! Comments (14)Thanks for all the responses of support! I took about 30 pictures but made a mistake by not calling the police the same day. I had an impromptu work meeting pop-up and it forced me to fly out of town for 3 days. I'll probably call it in tomorrow. I'm sure my insurance would cover it but it's not worth the deductible + the higher premiums to follow. And I highly doubt they'll cover the cost to remove and recast a slab - over $12,000. So for now I just have to live with the graffiti. After I arrived today to see it again, it didn't look as bad as the morning after it was done. The 4 hours of wire brush scrubbing paid off at least a little. It's still awful though. If I find the kids that did it I'd love to shock them with a stun gun, just for a few minutes (or hours). I've been told that concrete can take up to 20 hours (in humid climates) to cure enough that it can't be scratched. Since 20 hours on a lawn chair is not realistic, I'm going to Sam's Club tomorrow and picking myself up a surveillance system. If they're brazen enough to come back - with cameras focused in on them - on the next pour, they'll be visiting the holding cell. I'll report back with what the police say....See MoreIt's raining. Comments (57)..thanks for the various replies to my queries here.... from what I now deduce, in the U.S. they use a single spelling of meter to cover both, whereas here we use two spellings, metre for distance and meter for our energy supply needs... there is no way for instance, I would refer to my meter box as a metre box... ...I think, if I was learning English as a foreign language, I might prefer to use the American spellings, as it seems they're a little less complicated... ...I'm not sure we have long distance readings via computer here as yet, maybe in some places, - I think this is a great idea - but we tend to take our own readings and pass them over either by phone or internet, but once a year they send someone out to do a manual reading, just in case we're cheating... it's been this way for many years as far as we are concerned here, and after living in different areas of the country... ..Melodye above reminds me that 'gas' is another area of confusion.... we would never use gas to refer to the petrol we put in our cars [autos?].... once again, more simplified maybe but confusing for me, in the U.S. they use gas to refer to different things......See Morethree3apples
